Sca 3000A Or Sca 3000C for Metz 40Mz2 + PG16 with Pentax

Hi all,

I,ve a Metz 40Mz3 flash gun, a Powergrip G16 and an ordered K10 (that dearly I wait), now I want to use this flashgun with the camera, when it arrive, so searching around I've find that to connect the flash with the k10 I need a Sca foot (the 3702 ) and if i want to use the PG16 powergrip I need a metz adpter cable.
But I can't understand if I need the sca 3000A or the sca 3000C one.

So if someone know please can help me?

Many thanks,
Angelo

Please do a search in the pentax forum.... Enough said/written about Metz flashes & Pentax.

So...

  • be aware that the flash-trigger-voltage of the K10D may not exceed 10V

  • the extra pins on the SCA 37xx don't do what they supposed to do: use the 'standard' SCA adapter (with one center pin)

  • old TTL flashes don't work on K10D, only in manual or auto (if the flash has its own light sensor)

or get one of the new Pentax flashes! These are THE BEST.

I would go with the sca 3000c and sca3072

this will give you.

1st Curtain Sync
2nd Curtain Sync
Spot Beam Assist.
Flash ready in view finder
flash successfully in viewfinder

Don't know the 40Mz2 but if its a zoom head version then it should also be capable of Smart auto where you will get

auto zoom
iso with camera (but not if you set auto iso on camera (K10d))
Auto aperture

Basically it'll be really cool, and if the threads are anything to go by more consistent than the P-ttl offerings

This link will probably help (go for the archive)

Jens is the expert and you'll find is web site very informative.(search for metz in here)

The flash trigger voltage is fine

The only Metz's I know have an issue is the 25 year old CT1's which will fry you never mind your camera.!!!

Ah G16 I think you need the 3000a for that

the way I read it

3000c connects camera to 40Mz2 to allow off camera
3000a connects camera to g16 which intern the 40Mz2 plugs onto.

And you know them all?

  • the extra pins on the SCA 37xx don't do what they supposed to do:

use the 'standard' SCA adapter (with one center pin)

That's incorrect. They work to transmit a lot of useful data to the camera. "Smart Auto" works great. Using a 3001 or 301 adapter on a flash like the 40MZ is like driving a Ferrari in first gear just because the sixth gear (P-TTL) is non-functional.

  • old TTL flashes don't work on K10D, only in manual or auto (if

the flash has its own light sensor)

Which is the case for the 40-MZ.

or get one of the new Pentax flashes! These are THE BEST.

...and the MOST expensive.

That's right. The 3000C does C_onvert SCA3000 adapters for use with SCA300 flash units.

3000c connects camera to 40Mz2 to allow off camera

Nope, unless you are happy to use the 40MZ2 as an SCA300 flash which would disable all the cool functions like Motor Zoom and Smart Auto.

The task you describe is fulfilled by the SCA 3008 A or 3007 A adapter. I do not know how they differ, but Philzucker uses a 3702 and 3008 combo with success.

3000a connects camera to g16 which intern the 40Mz2 plugs onto.

Yep.

I personally would use the 3008 (or 3007?) and a generic flash bracket, as I reckon this would be more flexible than the 3000A and the G16 bracket.

Maybe PhilZucker will chime in, he's the multi-Metz-flash-man!

Re: SCA 3000A for Metz 40Mz2 + PG16, or...

Hi, I alredy have the 40Mz2 and the PG16 with a Contax foot adapter, so I'm asking for the right connection cable .
If I don't have the PG16 I will consider the 3008 cable that you suggest.

Having alredy the grip and the flash I'm asking for the right connection cable. If I have none of this, I will buy a pentax flas. but having alredy the metz one, I'm looking how to use it well with the k10
