Jumping Ship

Well, I've finally done it and jumped. I have moved to the Nikon forum and have just bought a D2Xs, with the Nikon 18-200 lens. I couldn't afford anymore at the moment, but I hope to expand the lens choice over the next few months.l

I shall now be retiring the D7 with mixed feelings.

Is there a proper cheer when jumping?

When one jumps during skydiving, they yell "Geronimo".

When one fells a tree, they yell "Timber".

When one drops something from up high, "Look out below".

When one JUMPS SHIP ?

No I am not glad when someone leaves the A-mount. Your "Bye" comment had a sort of "Good Riddance" ring to my ears. I myself would like to know why someone switches and why they chose what they switched to.

The man posted that he was leaving and I just replied with a bye. How you read anything else into that is beyond me. Why he switched and what he switched to does not matter to me. I am happy with the systems I use, so I didn't ask him to explain himself.

I know you are posting about 'jumping ship' lately because Sony doesn't meet your needs. If you are looking for someone else reinforce your decision, I understand you wanting to know why he bought a different brand. As for me, all the new cameras are good tools, so it is a personal decision which tools I use, it really doesn't matter to me what other people buy.

Yes, the D7 is a fine film camera. Too bad you never experienced the 7D.

Re: Jumping Ship

That is quite a huge jump going from a 7D to a $3500 (US) D2Xs body. I wish I too could afford to make that jump!!! Enjoy...

So, what was your reason to move to another system if you don't mind my asking?

Every man for themselves! "Abandon Ship?"

If people are going to keep announcing their
leaving, and call it "jumping ship"
we really must have a proper command announcement. ;p

And shouldn't the "Captain" go down with the ship?

Now, who, is going to be captain?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Good luck.

Good luck with your new camera and new system.

Minolta is a dead duck and Sony looks like they're just as bad as the Minolta of latter years when it comes to clarity of purpose and delivery of new models.

When my 5D breaks and repair is time-wasting o otherwiser uneconomic I shall look at all alternatives and then make a choice.

Might be Sony, Canon, Nikon or Pentax, though C & N look most likely at this stage. Over priced lenses reveal much about Sony's approach.
