~~~CTF Challenge #126 - Body Parts~~~
Yeah, I guess that I don't read those posts very often, or at least I "next" past them really fast looking for the good juicy bits.
This challenge seems to have quite a lot of commenting so far. Excellent! That makes me really happy!
You are far too sweet. I take back that "strange" comment!
I'm actually getting ready to buy a DSLR, that is unless someone has one they want to sell pretty cheap!!! Seriously.
My birthday is this month and I've been saving up like a good girl and I think I'm going to bite the bullett. I guess I have to buy Canon now since I've won a challenge. I can't be a one hit wonder now can I? But you just look out over in the DSLR challenge. I'm coming to get you all!
I see what you mean. I guess I never really address anyone's comment personally, rather I just say what I think and disagree with someone else. I guess sometimes we give each other a hard time, but that's all right. We all seem to be friendly here.
There are an amazing number of wonderful shots in Exhibition already! Wow, you guys are a talented bunch! I can't wait for this weekend when everyone has a chance to get out and shoot!
Thanks all for all the great comments already! I guess Rod has gotten us on our toes! And I guess I've infected everyone with my talkativeness. This thread is crazy long, and it's only been 24 hours!
I have like new 20D. Let me know if interested.
Well great for you & bad for us as you will be soaring wiv a Dslr camera:-)
You will have a great time at the Dslr challenge they will make you feel like the greatest photographer, nay artiiiiiist even, in no time at all:-) Just brush up on your Photoshop as the water colour filter goes down really well over there:-)
Regards Rod
It's really wonderful you giving your camera to a poor struggling student, I'm sure she will pay the postage at least:-)
Regards Rod
In just trying to not be the same as everyone else, after all we all have the same body parts so we have to be a bit more creative I spose:-)
The challenge is off on a flyer at the moment, I can't keep up:-)
Regards Rod
Did I say I will give it for free, ha ha. You are a funny man Rod.
Think of around $1,000, for whoever is interested.
Well officially, Exhibition gallery is for photos taken with any camera at any time.
Personally, this exhibition gallery means to me is a place where I can submit photos that...
(a) I could not submit in eligible when I clicked them because challenge topic was different.
(b) I clicked them with non-canon camera.
I cannot understand, why would anybody want to keep submitting a photo over and over to the same, well almost same, group of people? I know, I know, people's perspective change over-time...but why should that matter to you as an artist?
I agree with other posters' about exhibition gallery looking excellent but how can one enjoy those photos when one has already seen them before...some are submitted multiple times....some are previous eligible winners (even from recent challenges)...
If challenge topic is very different from one's normal shooting style and one has difficulty coming up with exhibition entries..........Why cannot one think exhibition as a chance to shoot 3 more photos during the challenge, instead of tweaking/modifying (most of the time, only changing the title of) older already submitted photos?
If one thinks as an artist, who has a chance to show only 3 of his/her pervious works in a same gallery to the same group of people.............would he/she choose to exhibit same work over and over?
Now if one is NEVER clicking photographs outside these challenges, I can understand perfectly why he/she has to keep repeating entries in exhibition though ;)
Yeah I do Rod...
Having said that it can be awfully difficult to figure out what
exactly is on and off topic in the galleries occasionally.
Maybe a longer description in the first post by help.
As any misconception as to wot the topic is, is mostly quite clear
after a few days of discussions under the picys. I find the topic
descriptions are quite long normally as the host tries to make 100%
clear as to wot is on topic. I'm often amazed after some intense
debates & the host making a ruling that totally off topic picys
still get posted. So obviously some just post their own picys & not
look at much else. Which is fine if that's the way they want to use
this place but they could well end up in pending from now on after
Jano set such a wonderful example:-)
Does Christina have wotsits:-) we shall soon find out:-)
I usually don't have time to shoot a lot of shots for both exhib and eligible during the time frame for the challenge. I usually don't have entries for exhibition (or they are just repeated photos) and haven't entered there in some time. Just for fillers in the exhib gallery this time around I felt I had 3 shots that happened to fit well so I submitted, although they have seen their day I agree. But, there may be some who haven't seen the repeated images and it's nice to hear from them. Not all of us have been around for 3+ years.
That's not to say I could take 4 or more shots this w/e and replace those in exhib. Some take their shots in eligible during the challenge and place in exhibition with better picys.
Actually, sometimes I find exhibition harder to vote for than in eligible.
Some taken early at photography and some recent. Please comment on what you like and what you do not. Jano
People frequently put the best examples of their past work in Exhibition which many times fits the topic better than the ones in Eligible. I'm usually torn between voting for a picture in Exhibition that has been submitted previously, or that of something I've never seen before - the edge usually goes to the brand new submission though I think. So while I will comment about the pictures from past challenges, I find I seldom end up voting for them since we only have 5 votes and there are frequently about 80 images to choose from.
I'm with CJ:
  • Exhibition is a lot harder to vote, so tough I don't even vote there sometimes.
  • Don't vote for pics I've seen here before, at least 99% of the time.
Few days ago I received the car I've ordered 5 months ago, and I've been visiting a forum about that brand since the order to get info about the car.
Just yesterday I thought why not start a photo contest about that brand/car there, so I did. The guys loved the idea and there are already some nice entries.
Btw, I borrowed some the rules from here :) hope you don't mind.
Dear Abstract:
The name «Exhibition»
says it all for me: it is
an opportunity to ex-
hibit
to the public (in
this case: to your «co-
challengers») images
you once shot of the
same or a similar sub-
ject to the one of the
actual challenge. This
might then also give
hints to others who
take pictures for the
«Eligible»-gallery—
and, therefore, really
accept the Challenge
as such —on how
the topic could be
interpreted.
Thus, «Exhibition» full-
fills two goals, IMHO:
It allows you to display
work you are proud of;
and it serves as a means
to show different under-
standings of the topic.
This is, BTW, why I do
not understand any
strict interpretation of
the topic in «Exhibi-
tion»: I think this is the
place to give leeway
to the posters (the
voters will, then, «pro-
nounce» their verdict
anyway), while in «Eli-
gible» the topic itself
is supposed to be part
of the real challenge.
I do, hence, like to
see «old acquaintances»
in «Exhibition»; they,
usually, look different to
me «under the light» of
a new topic. And, accord-
ingly, I do not hesitate to
enter a picture dear to me
again (and even again and
again), if it does fit my
own concept of a new
topic.
I know many of you do
not share this opinion .
So, please, just take this
post as my personal con-
tribution to the subject
you’ve raised, Abstract...
Let me think about it.
I've been thinking about the 400D, but the 20D might be a better investment opportunity. And the cost isn't that much more...
How "like new" is it?
