FZ50: New Firmware (Version 1.09)

In a German digital camera forum, the user Gusto says he got a new firmware version for the FZ50 directly from Panasonic. This version shall fix a problem related to switching off the FZ50. Gusto does not say what other changes this update includes.

If anybody wants to try this update, I would be interested in his experiences. I am a bit scared to do it myself at the moment, because this update does not come from an official Panasonic download site.

Hello!

My camera shows the second error that is descriped on the geman web page.

When the camera is switched on in custom mode and you open the display the first time, it does not switch on. You have to close it and reopen it. Then it works.

Best regards

Bastian

I don´t think it´s an official upgrade, just the latest they ship their cameras with and now given to a complaining customer.

Re: Help: FZ30 - 2 min power save - failed

Hello!

My camera has version 1.06 installed. I think that I will update my camera after I charged my battery pack.

If the problem is fixed, this update is enough for me. This error was the only thing that I really dislike about my Panny.

Best regards

Bastian

That's odd. My FZ50 is on firmware 1.05 and it doesn'r exhibit the problem with your 1.06.

Interesting to know that Panasonic has provision for firmware upgrades, though.

Re: FZ50: New Firmware (Version 1.09)

Despite my attempts at Installationsanweisung (englisch), I was unable to ascertain my current firmware version. Among other things, what does, "Upper side cross key" and Downer side cross key" mean? AC Adapter? Did one come with my FZ50? If so, I've never used it.

Pointers, tips, & advice gladly accepted.

Follow-up – Firmware (Version 1.09)

I've figured out what Upper & Downer side means. I also know I am to press the stabilization button. But that's as far as I've gotten. I took a look at the directions on the Panasonic site for the L1K, thinking the procedure to find the firmware version number may be the same. It still didn't work for me.

Patiently playing, I await real guidance.

Try this Jack

To check your FZ 50 software version...go here and dowload pdf instructions in English...the link worked ok for me

Rik - Thanks. However, those are the directions I was trying to follow.

Question: Should the memory card be 100% clear or have at least one image?
Do other settings matter, like Raw or Jpeg; OIS on or off, 1 or 2?

Thanks again.

Re: Follow-up – Firmware (Version 1.09)

I got it from the same source (FZ50), and it worked for me and my FZ30;
the SD-Card should contain at least one image (RAW mode off):

Here's how to look it up (for FZ30 and FZ50):

  • put in a fully loaded battery or connect a power supply

  • switch to LCD by [EVF/LCD]

  • switch FZ30 off by [OFF..ON]

  • set mode dial to 'P'

  • press [OIS]+[^] and switch to ON by [OFF..ON] simultaneously

  • set mode dial to 'replay'

  • press [OIS]+[v] simultaneously (!! not [OIS]+[^] !!)

  • now the FW version should be displayed

  • press [OIS]+[v] simoltaneously again to turn back to normal display.

[^] and [v] are the up and down arrow (menu) keys.

Also make sure you have display set to show all data including histo or it won't show up.

Not for me:

I surfed all over Panasonic's US website and I saw no such a firmware upgrade. As a matter of fact, I only saw one firmware flash and it was for a DMC-L1 camera. This file was listed like this:
L1V11.exe @ 1,431 kb for Windows
L1V11.zip @ (not specified) for Macintosh.

No thanks, I shall want for positive confirmation from US Panasonic before I attempt this. Some of these firmware upgrades or flashes cannot be "un-done".

Re: Follow-up – Firmware (Version 1.09)

Okay. Thanks everyone. I recharged my battery and made sure the histogram was showing. Now I know I have version 1.05 firmware. But a good question has been raised. If Panasonic is not presenting this upgrade on their web site, should I try it out anyway? I don't know. I'll have to ponder this and await good advice from you.

Adendum to (Version 1.09)

It appears that the 1.09 upgrade works only on Windows machines. It comes with a ".bin" extension. I use Macintosh, so my decision is made for me.
