Funny ...When you compare 2 cameras ..you should compare every aspect in the cameras ... resolution, noise, flash ,colors ,speed,Focusing speed and acurracy and list is too big for me to continue and if the $150 camera is better in all aspects I'll be the 1st to sell everything I have .

Yes, hard to tell the difference in a web sized snapshot. Lets see the A530 do this:

Or this:

Also, the 5D is not $5000.

Oh, but you see, he had to put it on an expensive tripod and outfit it with a premium L lens just to make it competitive with the A530

Bulb

I dislike the way Ken 'reviews' cameras. Mostly his reviews are jokes but this one is different. Why? I can laugh about it.

He has a point. Some gearheads buy a truckload of nice equipment while they could have bought a 139,- p&s. Bulbmogul, where are u?

Never mind the aspects. Da man says the point'n'shooter is better, and that should be enough for you to quickly sell all your gear and switch. But who are you gonna sell your gear to when everybody realizes how stupid they have been all these years and scrambles for A530. You're screwed, man.

to be sure, there are plenty of folks with more and higher-specified gear than they need. But their ambitions are motivated more by equipment lust so you'll never convince them that what they "need" is just a P&S.

p&s can be frustrating

It's all very good for a still object, but as soon as you want the shutter to fire at a "decisive moment" it's not gonna happen.

For that reason, I would take a DRebel or a D50 over a p&s any day.

I have a Fuji F30 and I'm not impressed. The only good thing about it is it's small and will take little movies, which can be fun if you're somewhere and something cool is happening and you want to record it.

Unbelievable...

To be fair, a few in this gallery look pretty good to me, like the coach portrait

That one is to show you.. you can use a DSLR as a P&S and succeed, sometimes. The man turned the 5D on 'green', pointed the 400mm at the coach and pressed the little black button on the top until the camera made some sort of funny noise. And guess what, it IS a nice picture.

Sure, but nothing that couldn't have been accomplished without such lavish...

...expenditure on gear obviously beyond his abilities. Since very little of what he shoots capitalizes on the strengths of the equipment he owns, so why spend so much on it. "Mogul's Diesel Lens Hauler" (aptly named, no doubt) is sort of emblematic of his problem:

He has a valid point that he makes invalidly

I would imagine there are lots of situations where a good point and shoot is just as good as a 5D. He could have made that point fairly -- but instead, he takes a crappy photo with the 5D -- and he adds the cost of an overy expensive memory card and tripod into the mix.

Thing is -- if you take a photo that needs lots of DOF, and you have all the time you need, and the lighting is decent -- the p&s camera's 12x18 print isn't necesarrily going to suck when compared to a 5D.

Now -- all he had to do was go inside and shoot in a situation that needed an ISO greater than 400 and used a nice f1.4 prime -- and he could have easily demonstrated shots the 5D could get that just are impossible with the p&s.

Or he could have taken both cameras indoors to shoot volleyball or basketball.

And so on.

Instead he overinflates the situation to make a point -- and in so doing, really invalidates the point he's trying to make.
