Hp 9180 with Ilford Smooth gloss paper

Hello,

Ilford smooth gloss paper 280g Looks the same like Hp advanced gloss.

I see no difference in the 2 prints at max DPI.

Have you looked closely......

I only say this as quite a few people are saying the paper doesn't work very well in the B9180, i would like it to work for both of our sakes, as i have a load on it left over now my Epson 1290 is dying

hi Joeri,

can you take a look at the last 15% black, in those areas , I find, that the ink runs of and follows the texture of the paper, creating a skin, pooling, don't know what to call it. the color looks good.

anybody else see this, or am I crazy? easiest to see on last portion of the gray scale.

let me know, thanks, Robert

Re: Hp 9180 with Ilford Smooth gloss paper

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. Mine is doing the exact same thing. Prints look great on Enhanced mat and Velvet fine art buy 'dithery' on Ilford Smooth. They look really good on the glossy test sheets that came with the printer. I haven't really used a wide variety of gloss or pearl papers, but the surface of this particular paper seems different to me, kinda sticky/tacky. Maybe it's not a profile issue but a way the surface reacts to the HP ink formulation vs the Epson? Reaching here.

No you're not reaching at all. If the ink is making little volcanoes, it is called coalescence. The ink is not drying quickly enough and the pigments are migrating together before the carrier fluid is dry. It leaves grainy dots.

I'm not sure if printing on "Other " photo glossy would have a slower dry time or pass time. On maximum detail it should slow it down.

I don't have a shipping model so I can't say if the output is the same on mine. I didn't like the Ilford Smooth much as the gamut was less than the Advanced media. I have the older green box Ilford though , not the new one. It could be very different.

Re: similar alternative paper

can anybody recommend a alternative paper for the B9180 ?
in regards to Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl

HP soft-gloss ?? satin-matte ?
Epson ? lustre
Redriver polar satin ?
Moab kokopelli ?

for proofs, heavy handling, water smudge scratch resistant ??
pearl, luster,lustre texture

anybody, or does everybody print on HP glossy and matt only ?

thanks, Robert

Re: similar alternative paper

I have HP Adv Photo Paper, satin/matte and HP Hahnemuhle Smooth Fine Art Paper coming today, and the sample pack from Red River should be here early next week. I'll let you know how they work out.
