Show off your 50/1.4 photos

Hi,

There's been a lot more interest in this lens around here lately, in this and the 5D forum; maybe all of them. Probably because Canon priced the f/1.2 L out of most peoples' range. That's still a fascinating lens, but I won't be getting my hands on one any time soon...

So, the merits and liabilities of the f/1.4 version have been discussed a million times, but what do we have the lens for? A picture is worth a thousand words, so let's see what you've done with yours.

I'll go first:

Joe,

As always, I really enjoy seeing your pictures. If I may ask... why would you get the 50mm f/1.2L considering you're able to get such pictures with the f/1.4? I'm not debating the issue, but I just happen to respect your opinions in this forum, and want to hear a rational reason.

Re: Lots o' pics

Dang, amazing pics.

Seeing photos like these make me want to sell all my gear and get the 5D. Aah, to be able to use the 50/1.4 as it was meant to be...

With my skills, I just can't get moments like those fast enough with my Pentax film camera and the manual focus 50/1.4. Oh how dearly I miss autofocus during those critical moments!

Again, thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures. They really got my heart pumping for photography and beautiful images.

Joe has said that its the lack of consistency he can't stand. Under f2.8 the 50/1.4 is not sharp 100% of the time (just like the 50/1.8 IMO), but it isn't obvious when/where the lens will drop the ball. Having a lens you can shoot f1.4 with consistent sharp "gauze-free" results is why he wants the L. Once you start using lenses that deliver on demand, it is hard to settle for anything else.

Consistency is the entire issue. Of course, I'd love improved IQ to boot, but that's not the primary reason.
