Do you have a link, or some evidence? Where is this coming from?

Sorry, no link - just what Canon Denmark told me on the phone.

I have to see the cam with my own eyes before I believe that, but if it is true and the G series holds up its own very high quality level, this cam will be a must-have for me.

It would be nice, but I doubt it

Canon have just released two new sequels to the A610-620, and these cameras seem to be almost G series, except for RAW and the hotshoe. Given that profits are mainly coming fro the DSLR lenses, depleting us from those two features is a good way to make us purchase DSLR and lenses.

believe it when I see it

With all due respect, hopefully you don't expect us to just take your word for it especially with no link or any previous posting history that might indicate you really have insider information. Me, I'll believe it when Canon makes an announcement.

Canon Togo

I just heard from Canon Togo that the Canon G7 will be released soon.

Sorry, we've heard so many false alarms over the years about the successor to the G6, it's hard to believe this is not another one. Hope you're right though.

Depends on the price of it I guess, looking at peoples profiles on here, most who have DSLR's also have a compact or 2. A G7 still wouldn't be able to compete with a DSLR's on noise, DOF and ISO, and the kind of people who would buy A G7 should be advanced enough to know this.

It's the A640 that the G7 may cannibilze, if there is going to be a G7 I would have thought it would have been better to only release the A630 and G7. I guess it makes sense why the A630/ A640 doesn't have IS, as it's a bit of an embrassment not have IS on them. The S2/S3 styling on the A710 also makes them seriously dated for a new camera.

Canon Denmark source is most likely...

DPReview. He/she probably saw the rumors mentioned here and is just repeating them.

Togo is a country in west africa. According to the Canon website there is no "Canon Togo" just a Distributor by the name of techno.

Canon are very good a plugging leaks. To find out if there is going to be a G7, you'll have to wait until an official announcement, until then it's just a rumour.

Does this mean that the leak at Canon in Denmark is going to have an unfortunate accident?

Sorry guys. My comment was tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously. I meant to use a "wink" instead of a "smiley", and of course can't edit my post. For all I know, there is no Canon Togo, and I highly doubt that Canon Denmark has made such an announcement over the phone.

Probably just going to have their rear caned severly until they end up walking dale winton. Would have thought Canon US/JP would be to busy shaking in their pants at the prospect of a new sigma with a new fovean sensor to arrange for them to have a unfortunate accident

Maybe you can't help me. I don't know much about that new sensor, and the older news aren't much help either. What's special about these sensors? From what I've red, they're CMOS with three colors channel per pixel, the same as everything else.

You're probably right, but I guess it's a little unfair to put the OP in stocks and start chucking rotten tomatoes at them. You never know he may be right, we can only hope.

Yep, and he broke the news exclusively to you!

Even if the local Canon people know, which is doubtful as they certainly kept the info on the 400D away from their branches to themselves to prevent leaks, how likely is it that he would casually give you a world exclusive?
Either he is having a laugh or you are.

Well, I think our skepticism is well founded, as these stypes of rumors have been posted for at least a year now with nothing ever coming from them.

And the fact is, Canon is as secretive a company as there is out there, and it is highly, highly unlikely that this would casually be mentioned over the phone by Canon.

We'll see if the OP pops up again with any more info, but I doubt it.

If you can discard the commercial hype info here is all you need to know to understand

Hope they solved a lot of the problems they had in the previous versions of the chip ..
