One of the most viewed image of all times

I just realized, staring at my PC wallpaper, this one of the most viewed photos, at least for the PC users.

It could be true, as it comes as the default wallpaper in Windows XP, and some people never bother to change the wallpaper. We get to see it over and over again, day after day, whether we want it or not.

I hate it, since I saw it a million times, but it is a great picture after all

Does anybody have any idea who the author is? Does he/she have a gallery where I can see more similar images?

Re: It has also been frequently photoshopped...

It is a lovely photograph, but also has a kind of weird... artificial... teletubby set quality to it:

Hehe, the infamous blue screen.
A picture that you REALLY don't want to see.

They got a bit better at this, but it's still quite common.

Probably generated

Chances are pretty good that's not a pic. Rather a 3D render from something like Bryce, 3D Max, Vue D'Esprit, or one of a host of other packages.

Wouldn't want to bet on that being an actual photo.

Bliss

According to:

" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bliss_ (image)"

the picture is called Bliss and was taken by Charles O'Rear. The photograph is of a landscape in Napa County, California, east of Sonoma Valley.

...and before anyone asks i didn't know that myself but was extremely bored in work so looked it up.

Good job on the reference by mmasiewicz.

I wouldn't have believed it was an original photo unless I'd seen it with my own eyes! I always thought it looked pretty heavily processed, so was a drawing.

But this convinced me: http://www.wineviews.com/wccscenery/files/page7-1016-full.html
