Yep , that was today. With all the cloud cover the 2.8 is a must.

I saw one guy in the stands with a canon 200mm 2.8, you probably could have gotten away with it.

Superb photos and to think that some people don't think the Sigma 70-200 can hang with the 70-200 Nikon!!

I have not used the Nikon, but I could not be happier with the Sigma HSM. Focuses very fast and is silent.

Great pics. I bet I can guess who won.

The second to last is my favorite.

Did you use a tripod or monopod?

Thanks.

Re: D50 Sports Shooting - NFL Carolina Panthers

No, all handheld. I hate using monopods for some reason.

Looks like you were on the field! Wait until week 2 when they play Minnesota. Oh, nevermind, the Panthers will probably win. Nice job.

Re: D50 Sports Shooting - NFL Carolina Panthers

Great photos. Reason for the handheld question is I'm looking at this lens vs. the Nikon 70-200 mm VR.

And for shots with adequate lighting, this Sigma lens looks great.

Re: D50 Sports Shooting - NFL Carolina Panthers

at 2.8 and 1/1000 shutter speed, hand holding is not an issue. I can usually get pretty clear shots all the way down to 1/180 or so.

Re: why 1/1000 ?

Was shooting A priority at 2.8 for the DoF I wanted, it stayed at 1/1000 most the day.
