GRD firmware v2.10 out!!!

get it here...

Windows: http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/download/firmware/grd/win.html

Mac: http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/download/firmware/grd/mac.html

Add the following features.
• 1/2/3/4 for [ADJ BTN. SET]

The Exposure correction and the White balance in the ADJ. Mode was fixed, but it comes to be user-selectable. You can assign a function to the four ADJ. button settings.

Regarding the initial setting after your upgrading this firmware, please refer to this table.

• You can now change the ADJ. mode with the zoom button as well as the Up/Down arrow bottons, if you set the [DIGITAL ZOOM] to [OFF].

I only have the R4 - so I keep on wating patiently...

Hooray! A useful change. I spent a while trying to figure out how to customise all 4 shortcuts before realising it wasn't possible. Now it is Should spend even less time in the menus now.

Re: GRD firmware v2.10 out!!!

Brilliant!!

Thanks Ricoh! I've always wondered why I couldn't configure all 4. Now I have:

  • ISO (essential with auto not going up to 400+)

  • Focus (so I can dial out of SNAP when hyperfocal doesn't get me sharp close enough)

  • Exposure (so I can go from multi to centre in tricky lighting)

  • Image Settings (to go from Normal to B&W)

All by using the two wheels. This is exactly why the GR digital is a special camera.

What is everyone else using btw?

Re: GRD firmware v2.10 out!!!

A great addition to a great camera. I wanted this from the beginning, and I am glad Ricoh could do it. They seem to really care about making this camera as good as they can.

I am using exactly the same settings, in this order (according to frequency of use): ISO, Image Settings, Focus, Metering.

The ability to use the zoom button to scroll once you are in the Adjust menus is gravy.

Maybe not so great for evryone and another suggestion for next time?

I had just upgraded to 2.02 a couple of days before - new camera was on 1.07(!) when purchased. I am wondering whether I really need a further firmware upgrade.

I note that I have set ISO and Image Settings as #2 and #3 under the adjustment wheel and Focus and Metering are also #2 and #3 in the first level of the main menu - so I can access six major functions quite easily - I would be loath to abandon easy access to Exposure Compensation and White Balance which are important to me and would otherwise be relegated to menu levels 2 and 3 of the main menu and therfore be that much more fiddly to access.

I would much rather be able to switch off all ld screen activity and return to normal lcd activity with a single button toggle-button press. At the moment it involves two menu settings that are not on the same level and several presses of the display button - not a big deal but fiddly if you are in a hurry - and this camera is very much an "in a hurry" style of camera.

Perhaps the right directional arrow could be used to do this when the camera is in shooting mode? It currently "does-nothing" and therefore might be available as a toggle key for this purpose.

Re: Link is to 2.02

I checked this am still no update and the link quoted gives the same page just now with 2.02 the current version available. Are you in a parrallel universe or just quoting the press release ? It appears to be delayed.

Put it this way. I am currently looking at my GRDs LCD which says V 2.10. I also tried the links again on the OP and they lead directly to the 2.10 update page so it seems you are in the parallel universe.

Re: Link is to 2.02

I seem to be having a problem downloading the latest firmware upgrade. My GRD still reflects the V2.01 that was downloaded about three weeks ago. I am running Windows XP.......any suggestions ?

I followed the steps on the Ricoh support page but for some reason the camera did not pickup the revision.

Do you RUN or SAVE the program when prompted ? Thanks !!

Update failed

I have not been able to update the new firmware despite setting the USB to Original and the battery is fully charged.
It said the camera could not be connected.

Anyone experienced the problem?

Re: Update failed

Andri,

I know this might be an obvious question, but have you installed ricoh mounter software on your machine?

Kindest Regards. Terry.

"can't connect with camera"

I'vew seen this when using the USB 2.0 connection to download pictures. The cure is to make sure that LA Gate is fully shut down (not just minimized in the task bar). Then the camera is properly recognized. Before doing the update yesterday, I made sure LA Gate was off, and had no problems.
