Show an mage that you could never repeat.....

Since my last call for images in a thread had a lot of responses ( http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=18845620 ), here's another one.

Show an image that made you think 'Wow, I can't believe I got that shot. I could never repeat that again". A real one off, never to be repeated and either planned or even better a lucky shot.

I'll start. I was pointing my old Canon G3 (with a reversed 50mm f/1.4 Pentax mounted on it for macro shots) at a fly on the rim of my wine glass. Just as I pushed the shutter button to take a picture of the fly, it took off. Here is what I saw on the LCD:

A housefly in flight! These guys move very fast and I know if I live to be 100, I will never get a housefly in flight again.

I look forward to some cracking shots!

Thanks.

Simon

Okay, I'll Play

I'd say this image I shot would likely be impossible to catch again. And it's not the dragonfly that is so unique....it's the shadow the dragonfly cast on the opposing leaf!

Re: flying coyote

Sorry, not hosted on pbase, just a photonet link. The coyote was on the ground when I pressed the shutter and in the air when the exposure was made.

Their is a unique subtlety to this photograph that caught me...

by surprise as I looked at it. Very nicely done. Not as dramatic as some, but all the more impressive because of that.

Re: Show an mage that you could never repeat.....

I captured this shot by accident as it wasn't at all planned. Though technically not difficult, but I could never get my 5 yr old to jump again like that with me waiting with my camera :-).

Maybe not what you had in mind...

Cool fly shot...

My sister in laws cat named Sky died recently so I'll never be able to take another photo of her...

But she lives on in a 12x18 print on metallic paper on my sister in laws living room wall...

I know this is not what you had in mind but I just thought I'd throw a different twist in... ;> )

Re: Maybe not what you had in mind...

What a gorgeous cat portrait! You can just FEEL the intensity and the un-distracted focus. Beautiful animal and friend, indeed. The more I am around my perfectly lion-colored male cat,"Koji" (="orphan in Japanese) the more I realize that we are of the same creation. They have most of the same emotions, fears, joys, and security needs that all creatures have...and someone who realizes that and treats their pet/friend accordingly is a blessing for sure.

If ever there was a totally stupid and disgusting phrase, it's "dumb animal."

Sky is a beautiful, memorable companion. You can see it and feel it. And it's wonderful that this portrait is still such a touching remembrance.

I think it fits this thread's theme well.

Not very sharp but here this one of mine.

And the reason why it's so noisy is because it has been taken with the 10x plus 4x digital.

Re: Show an mage that you could never repeat.....

I just got my D200 a week ago and was waiting for my daughter who was at track practice. So I was moving around taking shots of all the different track events and a football game that was going on in the same stadium. It was almost totally by accident but was one of my better timed (lucky) shots.

Recent Posted Shot - Truly rare opportunity

I posted this one here as part of a series recently, but I think it deserves another go. It really was a rare chance to be in this close of an encounter.

Sneaky shag pics

I was cruising this forum looking for D200 images and I thought I'd add a couple taken off my yacht. My grandson had just thrown back this fish when a shag swooped in and grabbed it. We couldn't believe it actually tried toswallow it - but it did.

If you come to think about it

Nearly all photos are unique, in that they all caught one particular moment, that is gone and won't happen again.

I shot this one last week during a Parisian zoo visit with one member of the Fujifilm SLR forum who was nice enough to let me try his brand new S3 Pro.

The zoo has replaced traditional bars by glass panes, so it's hard to take pictures of the animals without visitors reflecting in them.

Yet, this particular encounter, and the monkey's expression, were worth the shot, I think.

Another slightly different take on the topic

In the Concorde lounge, waiting to board:

A shot that, sadly, no-one will ever be able to take again.
