Stop files from automatically opening with cursor?

I'm helping someone that just got a new Dell laptop. Certain files/folders automatically open when the cursor hovers over them. I can't find anything on google or My Computer/Control Panel/Mouse. There must be a box to disable it or change the timer to more than 1 second.

Give us a little more info:

"the cursor hovers " I assume your referring to the Mouse Cursor

"over them" I assume that there Icons or Names of the files or folder that are opening.

I have not the foggiest Idea where "them" were displayed in the first place. On the desktop, in Windows File explorer, in an open dialog, in some applications window or any other place.

There is a Windows setting the things will open with a single click as far as just a hover I only know of bubbles and Java script Mouse over. Something on the desktop could be HTML with a Javascript mouse over.

I did a search in Windows Help on "Hover" the is a "Hover Select Mode" setting you can set for the On Screen Keyboard. Don't know if you set it if if will carry to other windows...

Re: Stop files from automatically opening with cursor?

Thanks...I'll see if that works and let you know.

It doesn't matter where the file or app is located...desktop, windows explorer, IE...you only need to use the screenpad to move the cursor and certain ones open (no fingers on the left/right buttons).

Re: Stop files from automatically opening with cursor?

screenpad ?? On my ThinkPad there is a device call a TrackPoint you know the little eraser head between the G and H Keys above the B key. There is an optional setting for this device called Tap to select (on/off) the default is set to off. What is a screenpad are you tapping it quickly with your finger? Does it have a tap to select setting????

My Sony does the same thing

I hope you find an answer. My Sony does the same thing and it is very annoying. I have also tried to find a way to stop it and let a click select the file to open but without success.

Thanks...

Not having a laptop I didn't know about hitting the touchpad vs. the left button. I see where it makes life easier. I found the sensitivity slider too.
