Does anybody else experience the same problem ?
is it something with the camera ?
is it something with the lens ?
please help

hmm.. people usually want more contrast and more saturation. Those are actually two benefits and are part of the "L punch" that people refer to.

The problem is with your 300D. As you are saying: you are shooting in JPG. Even though the JPG is set to 0, it still means it is clipping information from the original file. Shooting in RAW will increase your dynamic range and it will prevent unnecessary clipping.

JPG contrast at '0' for the 300D is actually two notches of extra saturation relative to the 10D. Try -1 or -2, or RAW, now that you have a real lens that can produce real contrast and color....
