Test FZ30 Macro..zoom...DOF (pics)

Did a little DOF/zoom test this evening with the FZ30 and Leica Elpro#2 closeup, a +4.9 diopter. We had a thread recently discussing backing off on zoom for macro. This shows the effects on DOF and edges falloff at effective 200mm and 300mm zoom. Focus is on the 6 1/2" line, at least it's supposed to be. Not too scientific, but it gets the point across that backing off zoom has rewards in DOF

200

300mm

What did I learn today?

When shooting macro with closeup lens, f11 is far superior to wider apertures and that zooming 200-300 is a good range, with 200mm being less edge distortion than 300mm.

I actually use full zoom macro for the opposite effect - to decrease the DOF and isolate the subject. Nice set-up. The measuring tape appears to be vertical, but I'm sure it's slanted otherwise the test results wouldn't make sense.

actually Unda, the shot angle was between 30 and 40 degrees.
So true DOF is not as much as shown on the rules
