B&H photo

Anyone have any negative experiences with B&H? I ordered a 17-55 from them last week and they had it out the next day. Now I ordered a D2X from them and paid $90 for UPS next day, and they've been sitting on the order for 3 days, no tracking, no nothing. I've called them twice about it (Saturday, and today) and both times they respectively said the order was fine and it would ship out "today".

Since my experience with them was so great when I ordered the 17-55 I figured I'd stick with them for the D2X purchase, but I'm feeling a little jilted when I could have gone to one of Ritz's stores and had the camera 3 days ago.

What gives? Am I jumping the gun?

It is very strange because most of the time (and I ordered couple of
equipment from them) I had my good the next day! (never pay for
extra!).

Re: B&H photo

They would be closed on sat, sabbath, and I guess they would have sent it out the next working day for mailers which would be monday, I usually buy all my gear from B&H never had any problems.

Re: B&H photo

When you buy a high value item like the D2X from them they send your order to their "credit verification" office before releasing it to shipping. I'd guess that's where your order is stuck. Same thing happened to me even though there wasn't anything wrong with my credit and I'd purchased around $10,000 worth of equipment from them in the past without incident.

You have to know that..

Next day with a lot of companies means you will get it "next day" AFTER they process the order. It may take three days to process the order then they will ship it next day.

Quite deceiving, but that's what I've found with a lot of companies lately.

Re: You have to know that..

If you place the order on Friday too late for them to process the order before the UPS pick up, B&H is closed on Saturday, UPS does not pick up on Sunday, so the first day it can go out is Monday, and Next Day delivery would be Tuesday. You may think that you lost three days but you didn't. I have ordered tons of stuff from B&H and they have always been flawless.

Recent negative experience - - with UPS

I acknowledge that what happened isn't B&H's fault, but they're still the supplier and I'm the customer.

I ordered a D200, speedlight, couple of lenses and filters from B&H back in December. I got the lenses, speedlight and a few of the filters right away, but the D200 was backordered (expected this). I was notified that the D200 was shipped Jan 11 UPS, 3 day. It got to the distribution point on this end of town on the 16th - - - then it disappeared. After a week, I contacted UPS, they said to contact the shipper. Contacted B&H, they said they'd put a trace on it.

That was a week ago - just found out that they have to file a claim with UPS. What ticks me off is that I had to initiate the problem. After 7 calendar days with the package being updated to deliver the next day, you'd think UPS would get a clue. It took a customer calling the supplier to contact the shipping company to figger out something was amiss.

And to top it all of, B&H is out of stock on the D200. (sigh)

Re: Recent negative experience - - with UPS

B&H have been great to deal with - no problems. UPS, OTOH, is terrible and I try to avoid using them especially when shipping electrical equipment. Their insurance is worthless. They simply avoid paying claims. I'm not just ragging on UPS for the heck of it. This all comes from personal experience with some stereo equipment.

I have had nothing but negative experiences with UPS

I could literally write a novel on why to not use them. The most poorly run company I've ever had the misfortune in dealing with. I now pay extra for Fedex or go slower with USPS whenever I can just to avoid any dealings with them.

So far I have had all positive experiences with B&H and I have a little advantage in that by living in NJ I pay for 2nd day and it arives the next day.

Since B&H is closed Friday afternoon and all day Saturday for the Sabbath I think, to be kind, you are confused. You could not have talked to anyone there on Saturday. UPS does not pick up on the week end. Yes you are jumping the gun.

B&H - two thumbs up!

I agree! I have purchased from B&H many times over the years (mostly in-store) and feel very comfortable giving them two thumbs up!. I'm sure there is a good reason for the delay that the original poster cites and hopefully he will find out what it is and everything will be okay.

My mistake, I spoke with them Sunday....

Anyway, as I eluded before the problem has been solved, shortly after the post I received tracking. I was not aware they were closed Saturday. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm dissapointed in them.....

and only a month ago thought they were professional. Now I think they are no better than every camera outfiit on the east coast. Great when you get someone helpful and honest but the other side of the coin is just plain nasty. Buyer beware.
