Due to the encouragement from the Oly online family my eyes have been opened to the RAW advantage. It was using the wrong software that had blinded me. At the moment I've been comparing Capture One Pro & Silky Pix from my searches they seem to be the most highly recommended. And I’m erring on the side of Silky Pix but recently Theresa K made the comment that Oly Studio works well for her, I've not downloaded the demo as the only reviews I've seen tend to put it down, am I missing out on a good thing? Would appreciate comments from others who may have been down this same path. I’m looking at this from the wanting to give my customer the best possible result that I can under the circumstances angle & so would like to purchase the best possible RAW convertor.

Thanks in advance—David

I prefer Studio, but Silky Pix would be a good second choice.

but I just couldn't get it right. My colors were drab, my shots looked like mud. The default settings on Studio took those same shots and made them pop.

Oly E-3OO + some other stuff

Constructive criticism always welcome!

David,

Keeping in mind that I'm using an E-10 or two, I was "converted" to shooting 100% RAW with the introduction of RawShooter essentials. I had some initial issues with it and when RawShooter Premium was first released there were issues with, specifically, E-XX files appearing as black. As I trusted the support, I was able to purchase RSP at a very reasonable price.
Within 2 weeks, the E-XX issue was fixed.

I'm a strong supporter of RawShooter and I'm certain that any real issues anyone has with it will resolved in upcoming updates and upgrades.
It works for me.
Look here:

When I last checked, over 50% of the responders indicated RawShooter in either configuration. That's pretty good for a converter that's been available for less than a year.

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

but if you copy and paste it into your browser it will work.

Bill checked that one out B4 I posted, but there are others who rate it much much lower thats why I never tried it. Looks like i might just have to down load & try it too!!—David

So i've down loaded RawShooter Premium 2006 & so far not impressed is this the right Rawshooter? It did an OK job on a 8080 file except i could not get the whites white. With E300 first three attempts goes muddy, forth one a reasonable result but not as good as Silky Pix—David

This is my 2c.

Olympus Studio: If you wish to have the Oly colors similar to the camera JPEG output.

Raw Shooter Premium "RSP": If you want the best and fastest work flow with "Realistic" read true to life color, great detail extraction and noise reduction. Lots of other advanced features.

SilkyPix: Very good program with lots of advanced features for the pro's and lots of pre set "appearance" features, white balance and color for amateur's. Default colors come close to the Oly colors.

Other high quality converters: ACR 3.3 (need Photoshop CS2), C1 Pro, Bibble, Breeze Browser and others.

All of the above will give very good quality conversions and vary in cost from $99 to $500. Some offer free limited versions with some of the more advanced features disabled.

I use the following RSP, SilkyPix, ACR 2.4 with PS CS, and Olympus Master. RSP is my main choice.

If you are serious about RAW conversion choose three of them and learn the features and adjustments needed to give you the output that pleases you most. Its all about creativity, RAW conversion software is in its infancy in terms of development, expect to see a lot of enhancements to all the above programs in the coming months. It is great to get involved now if you wish to learn along with the developers.

Maybe within the next year we will be able to decide who emerges with the title of "best". Its to early to limit yourself to only one at this time.

As you're probably aware, I agree with you 100%.

RSP, without a doubt, IMO, at this time, is very powerful. I do 90-95% of my post processing with RSP.

Also, I have "no issues" with Olympus Colors when using RSP. Perhaps that's due to the fact that I still shoot with my E-10.

Yes, that's the right Rawshooter. I'm not impressed with this program either, and would rather shoot Jpeg than spend the required time to get a barely usable E-1 file out of Rawshooter.

I have not tried C-One.

SilkyPix is a quality program.

Olympus Studio gives the best results for Orf files. Silky is close, has a better work flow, and seems faster with more controls, but I get better dynamic range and slightly sharper pics out of Studio. Studio has a great auto-levels filter that is really effective at lifting shadows (adjust it manually for best results, auto is way to strong).

Nothing else is worth mentioning.

From what I've seen, Photoshop does a good job with sharpness and detail, but isn't the best choice for color. I agree it can give good results, but I think Studio is a step ahead in ultimate image quality.
I use the ACR...and gives good results...I find it very easy to use...

I just started using RAW anyway

Download the trial version before purchasing. > >
After reading a lot about Studio I downloaded the trial version and so far like the way it works compared to RSE. Oly Master comes with the E300 but the Studio seems faster and have more features. When I go to the Oly web site and look under software they only show Master or trial versions and updates to Studio. Do you have any idea how to find more on the Studio such as cost?

Thanks. Still recovering from Chistmas spending so will work with what I have for now which is RSE and Oly Master.
