aperture?

Is there a such thing as "0" aperture or lets say f 0.4 aperture? Or rather what is the lowest aperture possible?

Thanks

Re: aperture?

I don't know exactly, but I remember that an aperture of 0.4 would be in fact the theoretical mathematical end. But that would implify that all of the light a subject is emmiting comes into the lens, wich of course is impossible...

But there were lenses on earth with the aperture of 0.7 (some scenes of "Barry Lyndon" by Stanley Kubrick were shot on these...). These are the widest open lenses in history and originaly built for NASA...

The lowest aperture possbile for a lens with spherical ground elements is f0.5.

There is no limit to the aperture (well, aside from f 0) to the apertures of aspheric lenses. I've done experiments with synthetic aperture lenses of apertures of f0.2. The low DOF look is, well, strange.

Soon. I'm currently writing a paper on it. There were only two pictures, one of a landscape, one of a mannequin. The landscape picture had a lot of "shimmer". Had to move the camera to 61 different positions to cover the synthetic aperture, and the scene lighting changed a lot in that time.
