Show us your portraits taken w/your camera....

Definitely a most challenging area of photography. I am primarily interested in portraits also and have barely touched the surface in the 9 months I've had my first digital camera, the G1. Off to a slow start but this is one of my latest. I have a tendency to over do it in the photo editor. I often enjoy that as much as shooting.

No special settings. G1, speedlite 420ex, Omni bounce. No special lighting just moved some house lamps around. My daughter is looking into a lamp on the floor and there are two to the rear near the backdrop (the wall :))
Looking forward to some of your photos to come.

Of all the beautiful pictures I see, I rarely see portraits or
"people" pictures. That is what I bought my G2 for and would love
to see other portraits taken w/digital cameras to get ideas. Also,
tell us the settings you used. Thanks.

Herby my G1 portrait gallery (see caption for technical details):

In my opinion, the lighting is the most important thing by portrait shooting.

Older one taken with an S10. Flash off. On a tripod. Little luck.

Great one dave ! She looks like she's really thinking hard in that shot. Or is it a sulk ? Anyways a shot that makes you stop and take a closer look i like it a lot.

Actually I was the only one awake. (My wife would have never agreed to posing for a pic like this - but after I surprised her with it, it became one of her favs too!)
Not really a traditional portrait but still one of my faves...

Gee, how many shots did you have to take before you got one with
everyone's eyes ... closed.... ;-) What a great theme!

One of my favorites. Converted to BW in Photoshop.

A great idea for a thread!

I really love people shots. And at the same time find them so hard to do well ! Maybe in part it's because of the lack of speed of consumer digi cams....the shutterlag can really make you miss the moment. Maybe i should go back to doing just flowershots ! S

I'd like to join in and exibit a few of mine (taken with the g1)

Thanks cj. It was more "when is this going to end???" I'd been taking her picture and kept telling her that she was almost finished. After all the cute pictures of her smiling, the one I ended up liking best was the one that was most 'real'.

Hahahaha that's funny Dave. S

But i gotta agree with you i often find myself liking shots with a "real" feel to them. Those are the hardest to acheive too.

My favorite photos are portraits. And I have believe that the quality of the camera is not as important as the content of the picture. I have seen portraits with jaw dropping clarity that overpowers the message in the picture. One should be more impressed by the subject than the lines per inch resolution. I am all for sharpness and clarity, but my way of thinking has changed somewhat from what it used to be. The emphasis belongs on the message instead of the medium.

Enough philosophy. Here is a link to my favorite portrait, taken several years ago with my first digicam, a Fuji MX-700. Unfortunately, I never found out who she is.

Here is one sample of a shot I did a couple of days ago. I use the E-10 for all of my school and athletic team photos. Also use it as a replacement for Polaroids in the studio.
