D200 ISO 1600 pics

"These aren't mine, but I'm hosting them since the original poster's site went down. Somebody over at FM got a chance to play with a D200 and took some pictures of it and more importantly WITH it. These were taken using nice Nikon's 12-24 f/4 lens."

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

To me it looks like the picture has put through some serious NR.
there seems to be very little texture detail.

look at the dudes shirt (in the bottom right corner of one of the crops) its just smoot colors

hard image to judge too much by though, hopefully more iso1600 images will crop up arround the place

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

Thanks for the images! Not bad at 1600. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of over-analysis and a lot of criticism. "This 1600 is not as good as brand x's 1600" and so on. Whether the D200's high iso noise reduction is as good as Canon's is really not as important as the fact that 1600 color film was never ever this good, and a lot of people forget that. Digital shooters seem to have forgotten that we used to have to wait at least an hour for prints that resembled various grades of sandpaper.

EXIF says 1600

On the shots other than of the camera, EXIF shows 1600.

Interesting shots.

Sweeeet!!!!

Being a Fuji Shooter and have been thinking of totally going Canon...

Me thinks it best to wait. This may be the F100-like Dslr I have been waiting for.

I was happy with my S2 at 1600 (until I got my hands on a 20D) but this looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see more samples!

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

If noise appear at similar levels when flash is not used these results would be remarkable. Probably better than my 5D. But quite frankly we definately need to see that these haven't been tweaked. I see no chroma noise at all and thst is hard to believe. But maybe !!!

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

I remeber...

But with digital our standards are raised.

When Canon guys are able to obtain low-noise indoor ISO 1600 shots with 20D or 5D, I want to do it too. Looks to me D200 is up on par with these two cameras.

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

Judging by the embedded EXIF this is probably with NR on, contrary to the stated settings by the shooter, but definitely great!

Looking at the shadows the noise looks amazing...and i'm very pleased to see the carry-over of minimal chroma noise from the D2 series.

The only problem with my camera is it has a loose nut behind the viewfinder.

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

I'm not saying it's good or bad, but I'm not impressed!! Look at the exif: f/8 and 1/60, that means really good conditions (I can do better with my D70), I'd like to see shots at f/2.8 and 1/30 or less, this would be a good starting point.

I don't get it

Did this guy have to sneak off a shot? I would be interested to see what this camera can do in the hands of a photographer. I'm afraid we will be swamped with horrible photographs on which people will base their opinion of the camera. At least, if you can get your hands on this camera, shoot like a photographer. Otherwise it shouldn't be in your hands, IMHO. I hope real samples will come soon from Phil.

Nikon dont want people to take images yet, because they are still tweaking the camera. That probably explains it.

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

Maybe I just forgot my photography 101, but what difference would another pair of aperture/shutter time make? For any pair of aperture/shutter time producing CORRECT exposure the noise should be the same (taking a picture of the same subject).

Re: D200 ISO 1600 pics

Not true...

If you shoot high ISO with good lighting, the sensor has a high snr (signal/noise ratio) and veryone knows that shooting 1600 iso in such condition will show little noise

The real test is to shoot high iso in low light, where the signal from the sensor has to be amplified a lot with a low snr... eg: f/2.8 at 1/30 or less, means bad lighting

how lame does it get...

now people are going to make judgements on a non released camera based on some unknown taking shots of a wall with a flash on. How lame does that get. I mean really, we dont know if the shots were properly exposed, properly processed, and this is probably not a final release of the camera anyhow.

Just troll fodder for idiots, I'm sorry but how hard up are you folks to feed into this.

Wait for nikon or someone that knows WTF they're doing to post some high iso/low light shots before you go off half cocked making absurd assessments of this new camera.

This place gets more ridiculous on a daily basis, and shows how pathetic some measurebators have become.

I understand it's been a long wait, and folks are anxious, but you should see what the trolls and idiot measurebators at the C forums will do with junk like this. Realize, not all C folks are trolls or idiot measurebators, just the vocal micro minority...like all forums...
