Is the 12-24mm any good at f2?

I'm used to 63° and have several lenses in different mounts which go to f2 or f1.4. So how's your zoom at that aperture?

Gotta agree with you Thom...

I currently use a D100 & S2. I've got quite abit on Nikon stuff and would like to stick with it, so am waiting to see what the D100 replacement will be like and if the D2x will come down in price. However; the 5D really looks a good deal and will probably fall in price again soon. All I would need is a 28-105 and a 5D. Very tempting indeed.

Anything less from Nikon is catching the tail end of the market. I was realy hoping for at least 12mp.

Oh and before anybody asks 'what is stopping you', err the answer is... money!

Regards
Chris

Why is the text "DPReview style"?

I'm not really convinced that the specs are real.

Lets say "EYANDA" got this information from an inside source at Nikon OR from a member of the press that had been informed about the new camera under NDA.

Then why is the writing style almost identical with Phils "Specification" section in his reviews?

The way the camera specifications are made out doesnt match nikonimaging.com, nikonusa.com or any of the european web sites.

Sorry, but I think this is a "cut, paste & fake" job!

Sure it may not make any difference to us, but the most
frequently-asked question I get when doing a Wedding is "How many
MP is that camera?"

I get asked this question a lot as well, and frankly it’s rather annoying. My answer policy for it is 2-4 mega pixels more then highest available DSLR today. So the conversation usually goes like this:

“Wow, that’s a nice camera. Professional?”

“No, just like photography..”

“How many mega pixels is it?”

“18”

“Wow.. is it Canon?”

“No Nikon.. “

“Cool”

That’s it.. I think if we all did this life would be much easier.

Ohh.. and I tried out the 5D at PhotoExpo yesterday.. The only thing I was impressed with was the View Finder (still can’t figure out Canon controls for the life of me). But the VF of D2hs and D2x were brighter and have a lot more shooting info in them (I really hope D200 has the same VF)

chris i'm saying

that if nikin said "we won't ever move to FF, however for full frame fans out there, we'll be offering a 1.25 crop or 1.1 crop sensor" I'd take it over a 1.5. I'm squeezed with the current 1.5 crop.

good for you

and sorry you feel that way. i presume you must also like Full Screen Movies instead of Widescreen since you enjoy losing a portion of the picture. And the kicker is you're paying for it. I mean you are actually paying for less.

Re: Yawn... 12-24 please...

Norwen, it's a matter of three things:

1. I can't use the 12-24 on my film bodies (which I still use a great deal for weddings)
2. The 12-24 is an F4, that's pretty tough for indoor low light hand holding

3. I'm not going to put money into DX glass only to have nikon reverse position and then move to FF. I'll hold on to my 17-35 2.8 thanks.

Since the specs were written, as you put it, a "cut & paste job", I thought it gave some additional credibilty to the info, but if the writing style is different from Nikons usual style, it casts some doubt.

You should have read my post!

I use 35mm f1.4 and f2 lenses as well as 28 f2.8wide open with Fujipress800 and Delta3200.

So I need a 19/2.8 and a 23/1.4 to shoot a dslr where I use film now.

If True, D200 looks to be sweet

And a very strong competitor to anything out there. From the 1Ds to the D2X to the 5D it will off strong competition.

It might finally force Canon into a "3D" and that is what MANY are really waiting for. But if the $1750 USD price is true as well(I would have guessed $2500 for that spec of camera), then the 200D will compete amazingly well in many spaces.

Thomas,

The 5D is there.

and your "uninformed" clients are well-aware of that and the MP count of it Your own psychology seems to play games with you, close to developing inferiority complex.

I can't believe that...

..people are so concerned with MP's!! Who will need more than 10 mp? Maybe a small group of commercial photographers but that's about it. You can make decent A2 prints with 4 mp and ordinary people still want more than 10 mp? unbelievable to me! I would never want more than 10 mp because of the large files and the slow pp..

Everyone knows that the D200 had better compete favorably with the
Canon 5D or it is over!

LOL - over for who? For you? Maybe, I don't know... Over for Nikon? LOL you must be joking. If the specs above are true for 1750 USD, this is a VERY competitive camera at almost half the price of the 5d.

Hey can you repeat that slowly please: H-A-L-F- T-H-E P-R-I-C-E

So how should it be important that it competes with the 5d?

Just before the D2x came out I saw the future of Nikon quite difficult, but they seem to make things better and better. At least if that D200 as predicted comes out.

Have any of you DL'd any
5D images? They are gorgeous.

Yes I have, quite a few. Some quite good (with very expensive glass) some so....so....

Sad for some of us.

HI Joe
I hope you're well.

Unfortunately, it may be good for you, but it's a deal breaker for me. I'm after something with the resolution of the D2x in a smaller, but still well built case; it sounds like the D200 will make it on all counts . . . . except the resolution.

kind regards
jono

I'm glad to see that most rumors (and leaks) are saying 10.5MP. I
want two D200 bodies to backup my D2x so I can get rid of my D2h.
I shoot weddings, and there are times when I don't want the big
12MP files - but I want something a little more than 4MP of the D2h.

I'm also glad to hear of the 1/500 x-sync... not because I think it
will overly benefit me, but I think it will finally get Ken
Rockwell to stop obcessing over the D70!

Re: D200 will fail to compete with 20Dupdate

Why would Canon bring out a 20D replacement DSLR with the same resolution of the 5D??

The Rebel body will never see FF...

.. especially considering the Rebel bodies use EF-S lenses.
