Yep, it can happen. When I first got my D I noticed some small scratches on the screen withing the first week and put a Hoodman protector on it. Just becasue you wrote this, today I am going to buy a PDA type protector and cut it to fit my DS.

Re: I scratched my LCD :(

Try polishing it with brass polish, it works surprisingly well if the marks are not too deep.

Re: I scratched my LCD :(

You can buy something called Displex which is a scratch removing cream, it works on mobile phone screens & the like.

I have not used it on my DS as i have been fortunate not to scratch it yet!! but it may be worth a try - you can pick it up on ebay for a couple of pounds.

You're right about the Brasso..

Great tip.. it did work for me. Sensor cleaner, anybody.

Re: You're right about the Brasso..

if the scratches are deeper you could try wet and dry sandpaper (used wet) ending up with the finest grain available. Then finally with Brasso or similar metal polish

Yes, I've done that too. Works a treat

I'm more careful these days. The last time I used that technique was on a scratched-up Sony WatchMan TV - anybody remember those? Pocket sized B&W TV with "folded" 2" flat CRT display. Early 80s technology, before LCD.

I have a friend in the jewelry business who frequently uses toothpaste as a polishing compound for jewelry and for plastic display panels on watches which are like those on our cameras.

You don't need to get fancy with things like whitening agents and so forth and no gels...

Use a small amount on a damp cloth and work in a circular motion.

It does work.

Re: I scratched my LCD :(

All interesting as I have a couple of scratches on mine... however what I did was get hold of a replacement LCD screen from Pentax (its just a cover really, a piece of plastic held on with double sided tape!) actually I got two, just in case.

I have not fitted it yet as I figured I'd get a bit more mileage out of the scratched one. Has anybody else had experience of changing it themselves raher than going back to their dealer? it can't be rocket science.

Re: I scratched my LCD :(

Cool, I thought that may be the case when I was looking at it. I will give the polish a go and if that doesn't work, order a new screen and a hooded protector.

Thanks all!!
