DSC F828 lost its Infrared (compared to f707)?

Having read the detailed review of the DSC F828 on this site, I was disappointed to see no mention of the nightshot / infrared capability listed as a feature on retail websites - especially as the F707 (and F717?) had infrared emitters on the lens housing that illuminated the night for low light photography - the f707 in particular has been praised as being the best camera for this purpose / format.

I couldn't see these emitters on the photos of the F828, so wondered if this capability had been removed?

I'm especially interested because I like taking infrared photographs (see the websites listed below). I'm looking to upgrade from my nikon coolpix 950 (also good for IR) and thought the F828 looked just the job.

Could someone clarify whether the F828 has retained this capability?

See these websites for info (top site specifically mentions f707):

Many thanks,

drwobbly.

828 has Nightshot infrared capapbility like the 7*7, with one exception: the fastest shutter speed on the 828, in NS, is 1/30, whereas the 7*7 is capable of 1/60. You don't see the 828's emitter because it is located on the pop-up flash, diffferent than the 7*7's, which is located on the perimeter of the lens. See my IR landscape gallery for examples of 828 IR. Note that many of the pics were taken after I had the camera converted for IR, so look at the EXIF, if the shutter speed is 1/30, then the pic is from a standard, unconverted 828.

Did some exeriments using crossed polarizers and that allowed me to shoot in a wide range of lighting. See Infrared Experiment at: http://www.photoprojects.net/sony.html Gene

John,

How did you do the conversion? Is there a website with instructions?

Thanks,

Re: DSC F828 lost its Infrared (compared to f707)?

I sent it to maxmax and they did the conversion. Something like that would be too nerve wracking for me, I about had a heart attack when I disassembled my 707 to tighten the loose filter thread plate. It went back together OK, no extra parts, but I sense that this IR conversion is way over my head. It was 350.00, but worth it, IMHO.
