Re: Now I hate my car...

Wayne, thank's. This thread has been a blast to read. Since I work in a windowless building in NJ, I need all the humor I can muster to get though the day.

Glad to know at least one person out there...

isn't taking me seriously! I left out the part about having my power steering pump replaced 3 times in the last 7 months - all of them leaked and my driveway is stained from one end top the other. Or the indash CD player that died - twice, and the second replacement that scored rings into all of my CD's.Or about the fact that I have to take my car in every month or two because it develops a front-end shake. He picked the wrong item to compare a camera to. How many people ever got killed due to a defective camera? The automobile is probably the worst piece of crap forced on the consumer today. He should have used a refridgerator as a comparison - when was the last time you had a problem with one of them? Sorry that you're in Jersey - I used to be from there, but I'm not anymore.

So who remembers how to spell "DeLorean," already?

Well, I had a celebrity wagon once that my father had sold me for $800. After the 5th tow, new: Alternator (exploded on the highway), radiatior (broke open (rust) in a parking lot), starter (lets not go there) etc., it was donated to the American Heart Association.

I have been talking about getting out of NJ since I was 15. Since I am married now with 2 kids (I wake up amazed every day that I am married with a family) it makes it difficult to up and move. Ah well.

It's a great state. You have to pay to walk on the sand. And every major highway has a tollbooth at the border - you have to pay or they won't let you leave! At least you're closer to the ocean than I am.

Here is where it would be nice to know what lag there is between
the actual scene and what you see in the EVF viewfinder. Assuming
you have a situation where you can pre-focus does the EVF add a
tenth of a second or so to the shutter lag? I don't know how you
measure this (one eye on the viewfinder and the other looking at
the scene?).

Having tried the camera in stores, I can report that the viewfinder appears to be slow-frame-rate video, maybe 15 fps. It takes a noticeable instant to catch up with the world and is jerky as you move the camera. So the answer is yes: the viewfinder is 1/10 second or so late.

It's very bright, and the markings (information reported by the camera) are very sharp and clear and legible. However, like many 35mm cameras, some glasses wearers won't be able to see the whole screen, which was the main reason I went with the S85.

(The first D7 sample I tried was incredibly blurry in the center of the screen yet sharp around the edges. Since Phil's had the opposite problem, they may be having quality control problems with the EVF.)

Re: Cold, hard reality sets in...

Was it blurry as in the optical system was poor - or was it blurry as in the focus points didn't agree. From the descriptions it appears that it's the viewfinder's diopter that's at fault.

Every device for capturing and reproducing graphics and images — be it a scanner, a digital camera, a monitor, or a printer — has different capabilities for reproducing color, resulting in color inconsistencies. In an ICC-based  color-management system, color profiles are created for each device, so that the colors in an image can be modified throughout the workflow to compensate for the differences in each supported device. The goal is to maintain the visual appearance of the image to the greatest degree possible.

It makes you wonder how anyone would find this thread to dig up and reply to after 20 years , or why ???

Given there isn't even a clue as to what the OP is talking about .

A reference to a d7 in a couple of replays suggest it was the Minolta Damage 7 , but that wouldn't have come up in forum Search .

After 20 years though , I'd be surprised if anyone on this thread even remembers the thread , let alone care less !

P.S , welcome to the forum Andrew , but leave the zombies in the ground !

Re: What's this thread about ?! LOL !

Andrew, just a little hazing for a Newbie.. we sincerely welcome you here. Honest.  there are no meanies here.

As far as finding this thread and and bringing  it back to life., It was some astounding reading.. I tried to find some references to " The Camera"  I also found how passive aggressive the op was toward the forum in general. But back then it was fairly typical.

Times have changed for the better here and having a new shooter here is a good thing.

The other thing is Andrew chose a 20 year old thread to post his " First Post here" My question to Andrew is, I understand jumping in and getting your feet wet is:

Why not post in an active thread ?

Again, Andrew having someone engage you here is a good thing.. we openly welcome you here,

Bill

Seems Wayne went to Nikon a short while after this. The Dimage 7 was obviously a tipping point.
