New S2 IS and S70 features/improvements?

Not for me though. I have a 10D and EOS lenses for pro and serious amataur photography. My S60 is my 'take everywhere' camera when I don't have room for / cannot carry the DSLR kit and tripod.

The S60 does a great job apart from handheld low light shots. IS would really help. Especially seeing as ISO 400 on the S60 is almost useless. The S1 with a 6mp sensor is no good (for me) for one reason - it's not pocket sized.

I would defect to Panasonic FX7 if it had manual settings !
Yes, but, wouldn't it be better to put the S60 CCD in the S1?
Since, apart from the RAW mode and 28 mm wide angle, which I would
love the S1 to have and which I included in my wished S2 IS a the
begining of this thread, what else has the S60 better than the
present S1?

You are right about the pocket size. I also love my S45 because its size even tough S60 "feels" smaller.

But the point is, since you want the IS feature in the S60. Wouldn't this device oblige the new camera to be wider? I think the answer is ... unfortunately yes. And since I really need the higher zoom possible for bird-watching purposes... I prefer to accept the fact that my dreamed camera has to be wider than the S60... until a new radical zoom technology is developed.

True...
The panasonic fx5 / 7 is pocket sized and that has IS though.

If only we could design our own kit...

It seems that I was not that far away from reality if we check the new Pentax Optio 750Z specifications

What would Canon respond to this...?

I can't even guess at what those will be, but I'd like the S2 to have:

1) Faster autofocus;
2) Less shutter lag;
3) Better EVF;
4) 5-6 megapixels;
5) Tutorial on CD.
Based on what people has said about the S1 IS and the S60 models
and taken into account competitors new releases and technological
developments since Feb 2004...What do you think are going to be the
features/improvements of the eventual new S2 IS and S70 models?

I would really like Canon or some other digital camera manufacturer to release an image tank in the 40Gb range.
I agree with you since I also use video mode a lot but it takes to
much memory

I have also thought in combine my camera with a photo tank device
(20, 30 or 40 Gb), which cost $200-$400 for vacation situations.

How about waiting to actually see what the Panasonics are like before making any assumptions about performance... A few weeks and we'll know.
I fear the same could be (although certainly to a less degree) for
Panasonic FZ3 and FZ20, which could reveal to be only a little bit
better than their predecessors.

almost the same in the S2:

1) Faster autofocus;
2) Less shutter lag;
3) 5-6 megapixels;
4) Lower noise
5) Live histogram
6) Flash hot shoe

If the S2 has these features, I'll drop my S1 like a stone. :)

Mine would be:

1) Hotshoe
2) 2" LCD Display
3) 28mm and maybe 12X
4) RAW
5) Increased viewfinder brightness in poor light
6) AF assist lamp
7) Addition of multipoint focus
8) More metering modes
9) Better lens cap system

I'm fine with 3.2 MP and the rest of the features

I think its griffen that makes an adapter that will allow you to use your Ipod as a mass storage. straight USB to the Ipod

Granted you would need an ipod with no music on it to do this.
And the USB would suck battery life.

But it is a start.

I'm with you...and
  • 12x zoom would be fine
  • flash shoe and remote release
  • fast AF
  • L lens sharpness
  • black body
wont' mind paying $700 for all these.

Actually, my wife has tons of music on her iPod, and it still leaves me 25 gigs left for temporary photo storage. Also, I usually don't sleep in the wild, so the iPod slips easily into it's AC powered dock at night in our hotel for file transfer.

I have not found 25 gigs of storage to be much of a limitation while on vacation (along with my 1.5 gb CF storage.)

Now, if she would delete all the old Disco off of the iPod I would probably pick up another 8 gigs! :-)
