S2 and Long Exposures

I've been playing around with Long Exposure nighttime picture and was wondering what other people do for long exposures.

Yes I know, no mirror lockup. Someday I'll sell the S2 and upgrade but for now I'm still learning a ton and improving so I'll stay with the S2.

For long shots:

Shot at iso 200 or 400. This seems to produce less noise even though it results in a longer exposure. Haven't done a formal comparision so I'd be intersted in what you do.

Usually use the 28 – 80 lens but am going to go with the 50mm 1.8 next time around.

Usually set Apeature at F8 to F11.

Manual focus (most shots are distance shots I don’t have to really visually see).

Excessive bracketing. Can be as much as +- 2.5 stops.

Use a tripod (Bogen) and manual shutter release cable.

Set shutter for t2 sec delay)to reduce lingering camera shake

Underexposed works usually produces the most pleasing pics.

Sometimes significant post processing in PS CS
Color (sometimes)

A few recent examples:

San Diego

Baltimore Inner Harbor

Baltimore Inner Harbor Hard Rock Cafe

Let me know what your experiences have been....
