1st Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 APO Super II Macro Shots

yes, exactly the same. Love it!

For these sports day shots i used shutter priority but usually keep
the camera in apperture priority for the reason you stated.

Heres another I just posted. How sharp is this?!

Paul, really nice shot! I love the way this lens blows away the background. With the proper light, the background is almost a painting of muted colors.

I do not know what software you are using. But in PS7 there are 2
very useful tools for removing blemishes and such. The clone tool
and the patch tool. With the clone tool just work slowly and make
sure you are cloning from a similarly toned area. You can vary the
size of the brush and work on a very fine spot at a time.

The patch tool is better on larger areas to repair and
automatically blends the repair.

The best way to learn is with experimentation. They are both easy
tools to master.
I will make the time this weekend, or sooner, to see how close I can come to your example. Lot to learn!

Thanks, hapnet

Paul, here's 5 soccor shots, with no post processing, that I said would post for you. Just loaded in PS CS and saved for web at 800 wide. You can see the focus area by looking at the grass.

handheld, Aperture Priority, AF Mode: AF-c, ISO 1600, 70mm, 1/3000 - F/8

I'm sure that I was using a higher shutter speed than you were and that makes a difference on some of your shots. I think that both of us can get better results as we get used to this lens.

Looks like a Western Fence lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis).
Beautiful shots! I particularly like the one with the lizard.
What kind is that?
A lazy one is all I can tell you about that lizard. I almost hate
to post flowers because I just enjoy their beauty but haven't the
time to learn their names.

I'm very pleased with the lens and I'm sure you're going to have
fun when you get yours.

Thanks nowhereatoll.

Since you're right next door, so to speak, the lizard was taken in Fairview Park and the flowers and sap photos were taken at Canyon Park. Both parks are in Costa Mesa.

Hi- I just picked up my D-70 today at Wolf Camera and they had a deal on 2 Sigma lenses that will fit the camera. It sounded good price-wise with both lenses being $229.00. Last night, I looked a a lense that cost $1500 and almost fainted! Could someone please tell me if the following Sigma lenses are any good although "cheap".
And what is APO?

Mine read: For Nikon AF
28-90 mm F3.5-5.6 Macro
70-300 mm F4-5.6 Macro SuperII

That is on the booklet that was inside the box. On the outside of the box, it is the same except that the word "aspherical" is included in the title of the 28-90 one.

If these lenses will not do a good job for me, I can take them back for a refund. I think I have at least 10 days.

Thank you for any help. Have a lot of learning to do but it will be fun!!

William, I was just poking some humor at you. I've done the same with my daughter and cats. Clean their face before taking extreme close ups!

Rick
Now get that crust out of your baby's eye BEFORE you take a close
up like that! :-p

Rick
Rick, I think the lens is sharper than my eyes. I didn't even see
it until it hit my computer screen.

From the sigma website....

APO lenses. These lenses use apochromatic design and Special Low Dispersion glass (SLD) for minimum color aberration and ultimate telephoto image quality, improving contrast and sharpness.

Apochromatic (APO) telephoto lenses greatly minimize color aberration, a phenomenon created by different wave lengths of light refracting at different angles. This causes each color to have a slightly different imaging point, resulting in poor image quality.

APO Zoom Macros offer up to 1:2 magnification in the telephoto range with instant shifting from normal to macro shooting.

APO Tele-Macros offer 1:3 image size close focus, long thought to be impossible for a telephoto lens — and are no larger than a fixed focal lens of the same class.
Mine read: For Nikon AF
28-90 mm F3.5-5.6 Macro
70-300 mm F4-5.6 Macro SuperII
The Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 APO Super II Macro is a better lens that the one in the 2 lens kit offered to you. I have this one and am very pleased with the results.

Hi guys... it looks like I'm next...

quick question: The Ritz site has a price of $209 and free shipping on this:

http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=7465730

Is it the same lens? I doesn't state "Super II" just "Super" - everthing seems the same on the listing but I know there are lesser Sigma 70-300 non-APO versions of this lens...

Ready to order but wanted to be sure it's the same lens discussed here.

Thanks!

Best regards

Keith McKane
