You can take sharp pictures with the R72. You have to be very careful about wind or vibration during the long exposures.

A tripod is manditory. I've found either the remote or using the timer is very helpful and avoids shutter press shake.

You can either prefocus as Richard mentioned or use the Mountain setting for landscapes (this seems to work well).

I usually take quite a few images of the same scene to make sure at least one comes out well.
