yep, you have definitely improved greatly...unfortunately i don't qualify for this as my first rebel picture is pretty good and i previously owned EOS film SLR's since I was 17 and studied photography as part of my college courses as well as a home study photography course..but just for fun here are my two first and most recent shots...

1st shot ever with EOS 300D, taken that very same night, I remember being amazed at the cleanliness of the image from the CMOS

most recent shot, taken last Sunday (not this sunday)...not bad but no great leap forward I think...

You have definitely made a HUGE improvement...but I'm sure you loved that first photo you took and thought it was pretty awesome at the time.

Here is a pic I took on the first day of owning the 300D.......my boys on Xmas day working off a huge lunch by watching TV. When I saw this pic I knew my choice of cam was a good one. ISO 800, no flash, P mode. Not a lot of creativity or talent shown but I still love this photo:

And here are two photos from the weekend just gone. Probably not the best I have done, but it does show I am thinking about my shots and trying to compose them better. And I now use mostly manual or AV modes.

Gayle, I love the most recent shots...great colours and very thoughtful composition...I wasnt too sure about the football shot as the white shirts are blown in some areas of the shirt and the amazingly bright light was often reading exposures too fast for the 300D...next time it is that bright and i want shallow DoF I will bring along a UV or Nd filter!

thanks for your comments, the whole american football gallery is at

Hehe, here is one of my first macro shots with my 300D, kit lens + extension tubes:

Overexposed, oversharpened, messed up white balance, ho hum at least it's almost in focus :) I notice it's also shot at ISO 400 for no reason at all :) Even so I was so impressed at the time I uploaded it to my pbase gallery!

Here's one from the weekend with the Canon 100mm:

Slight improvement with 4 months practice I think :p

Jonathon, a huge leap forwards, excellent second shot...is this the Canon f2.8 100mm macro and with any extension tubes?

After my 70-200f4L I aim to purchase a macro lens, I have it down to the canon and the sigma 105...any thoughts about this? (obviously price favors the sigma!)

cheers

Both are great macro lens, but Canon is better in speed, telephoto, better built quality ... I tried both and ended up buying the Canon 100mm macro 2.8.

No tubes, it was a big hoverfly :)

What Simon says, optically there's nothing in it (see Pvrnets excelent efforts with the Sigma) but if you want to use the 100mm as a telephoto prime, the Canon has nicer handling.

Here's 0002...don't know where 0001 went. Then 3803 below that...more nuanced flash work I guess.

I already had about 30 years experience with a camera in my hands and was progressing from the Fuji 602, so regularly taking photos anyway, so certainly not a newbie when I got the Rebel.

This was my first published shot from the Rebel taken the day I got it:

This was taken yesterday of my son - he left school this time and has just finished his GCSEs and it was their Leavers' Ball on Friday and while he still had the hired dress suit, I posed him for some photos in the garden. I don't envy people photographing weddings, the contrast in the one suit alone made life difficult. I want to work a blended exposure when I've time, before I print it properly, this was a quickie to let someone see it, I'd like it a bit brighter overall:
