I have tried the distance blur effect, for me is very important a depth of field effect, specially in portrays. Anyway DC290 seen that its alergic to it. For me its simply imposible to get a logic and controlable blur. The camera seen designed to avoid any blur except the motion blur with low light or bad conditions or by accident, no matter what you change the settings.

I think I understand what your'e getting at.....you want to limit the depth of field in portraits by widening the lens and zooming in. I also want to do this with the DC290, but had some difficulty. I'm sure it's possible....Phil's done this a bit with his cat in the bay window picture in the DC290 sample gallery. I don't think he tried though....probobly just automatic. I tried the same picture because ironically, I have a very similar bay window and a cat. I used the manual aperature setting and zoom but it didn't work. If you notice the settings, the aperture was set at a large setting.....F3 if I can remember, and zoomed in a bit. Experimenting with a large aperature (small F#) and high zoom (80mm or above?) would be the cocktail. Let me know how it works out for you.

You can set the aperture (to F3 for small depth of field) in external flash mode. You don't actually have to attach a flash and use it if the ambient light is sufficient.

That is the way to get aperture priority in the DC290.
