new canon s-60

In my case, I really would appreciate a better movie mode;… 640 x 480 30fps.

I'm not a movie fan...
I'm not a photo fan...

I'm a person, as the majority of the world, who uses his camera to just capture moments and memories.... some beautiful, some fun, some sad....family, friends, cities, birthday’s parties, etc.

For some moments there is nothing better than a high resolution photo.
But for some others the movie mode captures them in a better way.

And I do not want to be carrying a photo camera plus a video camera.

I prefer still photos, but its nice to have a good movie mode.

I would have bought this camera if it had even 15 FPC movie mode. Yes, I am very serious about photography. But I just love the movie mode on my S230.

Whenever I want to take photographs only, I take my DSLR with me. But when I go on family trips or to places where DSLR (or a large video camera) is inappropriate, I want a quality digital camera that can do things that other people's small digital cameras can do. Why intentionally cut from 15 FPC on older Digic cameras to 10 FPC? Protecting the video camera market? I just see it as plain disrespectful to loyal Canon customers.

why there is no 640*480 30fps ;-(
Please excuse my biased opinion on the movie mode but here it is.

I think that these camera's should have NO movie mode at all. I
would much much MUCH rather pay for a camera that takes the highest
quality STILL shot available. I will gladly spend money on a
MOVIE camera if I want to take movies.

Non of my digitals ever gets used in the "movie" mode. It's a
waste of camera features IMO.

Again excuse my biased opinion but I know there are others out
there that would just as well prefer no movie mode in their cameras.

I saw it listed that it is likely to be priced at 579 EU. What would that be in Canadian, or American? Anybody heard an actual price for North America?

Thanks for the quick reply! Wow, $499 US. I was sure that the new sony dsc-w1($400) was my new camera, but with this new development, I may have to do some serious thinking! Good price.

It's too complicated to not use it. And if you turn the mode dial to movie mode you have to learn how to switch it back to picture mode or send it back to Canon for adjustment ;)

Hi Adam!

Decent lens?
Not sure,as the jury is still out.
it's a slightly SLOWER lens,and that's not good.
It's also a smaller lens, and that might not be good.

hopefully,it will be sharp along the edges.

well see.

honestly,i'm glad I didn't wait,and purchased my S50.

I also just bought a Panasonic FZ10,as that pretty fastMaintains 2.8 max aperture throughout the 12x optical zoom) ,Leica lens, with a type of IS,has me hoping i can get decent nature shots, with faster shutter speeds than my now current setup, which uses the S50,and the slowish CrystalVue Optics 8x monocular zoom lens.

ANAYV
Great to see that they didn't jump on the crappy 6Mp bandwagon and
instead addressed the failings which have dogged the S-series from
the S30/40 onwards! - there never was a problem with the CCD in the
S50 - great to see that it finally has (or would seem to have) a
DECENT lens to replace that slow soft cornered coke bottle finally
:) .

My S30 was totally lousy at F4.9 at AFing in anything but a solar flare - Sheesh , you'd need a nuclear blast to focus F5.3 :(

I didn't notice the aperture, F5.3 in combination with Canon's traditional lousy AF ( it was bad enough at F3 on the long end of on the G5) doesn't look good after all
