FCAS Application (attempt #2!)

I've decided to quit procrastinating on my second submission and just get on with the learning process. So, for consideration by the FCAS Committee, here is my second attempt at entry into this esteemed society.

EXIF:

Date/Time 17-Apr-2004 00:41:17
Make Nikon Model E5700
Flash Used No
Focal Length 25.4 mm
Exposure Time 1/500 sec
Aperture f/7.3
ISO Equivalent 100
Metering Mode matrix
Exposure Program manual

WORKFLOW:

1) adjusted levels to lighten bloom
2) created duplicate layer
3) applied USM

4) used eraser tool (with black) to eliminate white fringing around edge of petals while retaining sharpening effects on petals and stem sheath

5) selected the background using the magic wand, using various tolerance settings and adding to the selection as I went along.
4) feathered selection (I think it was by 3 pixels)
5) filled background with black (#000000) using paint bucket

6) decided to change flower orientation, so I enlarged my canvas and did an arbitrary rotate. Cropped and filled in blank canvas areas with black.

7) selected background again and did "expand selection" by 1 pixel to ensure gradient fill met edges of subject without gaps.

8) adjusted gradient settings and drew line diagonally from top right to lower left.
9) adjusted size
10) applied signature
11) applied gallery frame

SETUP IMAGE:

With camera in hand, I see what I might otherwise overlook
