Does Z2's lens rattle like that of Z1?

I checked out the Z1 at a local store a few months ago and was put off by the rattling of the lens. In fact, it reminded me of a cheap Soligor macro lens I handled a few years back. I have since read that lens rattle does not affect image quality on Z1, and have seen many photos on the net which confirm this. And yet. Now, with the Z2 out, I have not yet seen such rattle mentioned anywhere. So, Z2 owners, is it gone from Z2's new GT lens?

Greetings,
Zdravko

Yes, the rattling lens of the Z1 was by design to allow certain features it offered to take place.

Personally, i only noticed this when actually violently shaking the camera - which i find produces not-so-nice pictures :)

Whether the Z2 does it or not, I doubt it will in any way affect its build quality (which being Minolta is automatically good)

Well, that's not entirely true. Let's remember that the LCD/EVF switch has been a problem... though overall I agree the build quality seems to be good (well, until that switch breaks)

That sounds interesting, as I have read it elsewhere. What features would that be? I myself can't think of any situations where random, uncontrolled lateral movement (as opposed to IS) of the front lense groups would be beneficial. Minoltans themselves do not offer any info to this effect on their official product site.

QUOTED FROM ELSEWHERE ON THIS FORUM :

"no, the lens rattling is normal and has to be like this. this construction method prevents friction by moving the objective, it doesn't have any influence on picture quality."

There was also a thread with more information on this but i cant find it. I'm sure 15-20mins of searching will help you find it :)

Thanks for the info. It actually took me less than a minute to find the thread :) Ok, now I know that the "wobbly" lens is nothing to be worried about. And, since the Z2 lens, though an all-glass upgrade, is otherwise similar in construction, I presume that it will have the same "shake, rattle & roll".
