...i really found no reason. personally i m totally satisfy on this Nikon product. what about uneven color, lack of contrast, too much moire..... so much complain.

remember when we still use 135 film to taking photos, remember when there is no such technology like 1005 RGB metering, AFS system, white balance adjustment..... we still work hard to taking pictures, try our best to produce the best image outcome by our experience like adjust the EV level, finding a good lighting direction.....

but now we expect a camera that can directly produce a perfect image with just simply press the shutter? then what will be the fun still on photographing? do we still need to learn about thechnique? and idea?

i believe no matter it's a FM2, D70, or D1x, we can still taking good picture if we really taking every single picture from the heart.

in term of image quality and performance.... i really love my D70

Most of the D70's flaws will only appear where objects are in sharp focus. Anything that's out of focus in the foreground or background will make the lens act like an AA filter, so no flaws appear in those areas of the image.

The D70 delivers very good image quality for most images but fails terribly for others. Demanding photographers want top quality EVERY time, not most of the time. Problem shots on a D70 come out good on a D100. I hope that answers your question.

Was your shutter speed not high enough to get a non-blurred image? Im concerned because I do want to take action photos with the D70. I have the 70-200VR lens. I ahvent had a chance to test it yet. i plan on shooting soccer matches. Can the D70 keep up? Nice pics by the way!

i understand D70 gots it's problems and i knew some problems do exist in other model like D1x and h too. but for me, i m sure i m a demanding photographers and i also want top quality every time, but my definition to top quality image will goes to a valuable subject, rather then the camera itself. furthermore, i believe that no camera is perfect, as it will be beaten by tomorrow's technology, camera is just a tool for us.

i raise the topic is not to compare my tool is better then whom. i believe D100 is a fine tool and i respect all photographers whether who is a pro or not, whether who carry a $$$ gear or a single time-use camera, as everyone have their demanding and interest, i respect all.

but for sure one point i can't agree of what u mentioned from yr thread:

D70 is not for nude. pls respect.

i just check the data of that image, it was taken in F5.6, 1/80, as i was forced to use the slower shutter because the low light environment, and the ISO is already about 1000.

but sometimes i do intend to set the shutter slower when shooting action images, as the motion blur can also a advantage to present the action. but of course , all depend, there must at least the object is fixed.

i think D70 can be used in action photographing, as it has ISO 1600 and 1/8000 sec, and this is already a good condition. besides this, i think all depend on the shooting environment, lens and the lighting.

tell me when u have some soccer shots, u know, i lost the chance to shot the rugby 7 international match, as all tickets were sold :(

I understand that the camera is just a tool, but things change a bit when you enter the digital realm. On a film camera, there are few things to complain about. There are few things that the camera inherently adds to the image. If your meter is off you add correction and take the picture, you could choose a bad film and make bad pictures but then you could replace it with a better fillm.

With a digital camera if the CCD is not good, or the circuitry is badly designed or as in the case of a D100 a thick AA filter producing soft images there is very little you can do to correct that. Hence I think the demands on a digital camera are that much more rigorous and the cause of frustrations more.

Hi Tom

I shot a rugby game last week on the D70 and it was brilliant. Most shots were at 1/1000 sec ISO 200 on a Nikon 80-200 2.8.

The ball being passed was sharp enough to read the writing on it.

I did have a problem were I couldn't get the camera to shoot faster than 1 FPS, but found out on this forum that night that noise reduction being on kills framerate. Beware!

Sorry I have no website so I can't attach a pic. but if you want I can send you one.

and great pics too.

but i kinda understand why amateur photographer complain about the tool. what i don't understand is why some people who seem to have lots of experience still complain.

some good photographers i knew personally still produce great pics even with miserable tool (compare to D70), and they never complain.
