S_Leeper beat me to it - I was going to suggest the same thing. You need to find out from the client exactly what he means by wide-angle (and if he used the term "shallow depth of field" you're in real trouble! Most clients wouldn't know what that is if it jumped up and bit them - probably think it's something to do with low-lying agriculture . . .)

I'm not sure what purpose a wide-angle "blur-in blur-out" macro shot would serve on the creative front - it's a bit of a contradiction in terms - but you could always do standard lens macro shots with shallow d-o-f and stretch it in Photoshop to give it the wide distortion and still keep the blur - if that's what the client really means?!
