I did use center weighted and set the exposure on the central scene
with mild correction (+EV) in the camera

(enter weighted on central scene, how ???? Sorry for my curiosity. LOL)

This time, no sharpening was added in PS, in camera normal
sharpening in NEF shot

( do you normally use normal in camera sharpening???)

On the camera, there are 3 metering functions, center weighted, matrix and spot.

I almost alwats use Center weighted because my exposure is more accurate. I point at the scene and clic. That simple.

Always, it is a good start to look into the LCD of the D-100 and determine if an image is sharp or not.

Always, it is a good start to look into the LCD of the D-100 and
determine if an image is sharp or not.

Yves, I thought I read some where you used low sharpening?? Well will have to try it, prefer to do less sharpening in NC and on low, you have no choice but too........

I really like the photograph of the horses. I've been trying to photograph horses since we've got so many here in California, but I just can't seem to get them at the right time.

This is where I would disagree! The good photographer recognizes the quality of light, gets motivated to take his family out in -33 degree weather to have a good time and captures some amazing pictures along the way.

I do have a technique question for you. Lately I've been working hard on manual exposure so that I can learn and better understand how to control the tool. I've noticed many of your shots have exposure bias. What is your preference when shooting? Do you shoot aperature priority mostly or manual?

Since I like the control of DOF, I usually shoot in aperture priority. In snowy scenes, the light is so intense, DOF is almost always set to a higher stance but if I need to control it and get a shallower DOF, I put on a -2 or -4 ND Filter. I sometimes shoot in manual but with the EV compensation, it is not really needed anymore.

If there is only one secret it is to get the right exposure happening. The rest has to do with the quality of light and the scenery you live in I guess.
