Risk/Benefits New Firmware

It is interesting to see that someone has made the 10D menu (partially) work with the 300D. In considering switching to this firmware, you have to balance risk and benefits.

Some of the benefits seem useful (smaller JPEG files embedded in RAW, incremental ISOs, etc.) and others more amusing than useful for me. No "killer" feature is there. I have of late realized that I would like the "Assist" button whereby features can be switched with a push of the button - for example, between center focus point and 7 focus points. This is available on the 10D.

The risks - at some point, with the right combination of sequences you may wind up with a $1,000 doorstop. Canon may refuse to repair it. I know this is worst case, but best case is a very costly repair if this happens.

Bottom line - I know that I will buy a higher end camera, perhaps the 10D replacement, in the future (say 2-3 years). For now, I am very happy with the DR and whatever firmware Canon makes available.
