could someone advise as to LS443 issue?

I received the LS 443 as a Christmas gift. Within 5 hours or so I noticed a ticking, mechanical sound when I turned the power on, not just the normal sound of the camera, but as if something was grating within the lens housing.. It continued to occur at each power on as the lens left the body, when using the zoom, and when holding the shutter button (to focus or take a photo).
I had the original camera replaced and the 2nd camera presents the same noise.

The camera shop advised that the sound was common, so I should get used to it, whereas a second opinion (different retailer) stated that this was not normal.

I am not very familiar with Kodak or digital cameras... is this ticking/mechanical sound normal, or does it indicate a defect?

David Davies - Dear Meejf, no response as yet from LS 443 owner, but replied to keep your query prominent. My 6340 gives a gentle whirring noise so your use of the word "grating" seemed alarming. With two cameras doing the same noise, would seem normal and I wonder if second retailer had 443 in stock or wanted sell you another model?

What you are hearing is probably the Orientation Sensor (Portrait vs Landscape when camera is turned on side) This is not a defect.
