Hello, I would like to seek anyones experience in printing borderless prints. I own a canoni9100 and have been very happy so far with the quality of prints and the ease of use of this printer. In the past I would download pictures, edit and print using the software included when I purchased the printer (Zoombrowser EX, Easy-PhotoPrint) and all was easy!!! I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 2 and Photoshop Album.... now nothing seems to be easy!!! I love elements (for editing) but I am having a hard time printing my pictures. I always seem to cut some part of my original picture. I think I need to re-size the picture but it seems comlicated!!!! Is their an easy way to easily print borderless pictures without getting the pop up that tells me that some information will be lost... I am wondering if I should reinstall what I had before !!!

Your help will be well appreciated!!!!

Thanks

JD

Unless the picture you are trying to print has the exact same aspect ratio as a 4X6 print then some information has to be lost to completely fill a 4x6 sheet of paper.

There will also be some lost due to "over spray". The over spray amount is selectable in the Canon drivers. This helps contol the amount of data lost in the printing process.

Thanks for your reply Al,

Is this because of Elements 2? I never had to do anything before, open, edit, print borderless and Voila!!!!!!

What prompted you to Elements 2? Was it more flexibility in editing or layers? If so, are these choices worth the extra hassel in printing your borderless pictures over the easier to use Cannon software. I have Elements and have given up on borderless printing with my Cannon i850 because of the over spray. A good pair of sizzors or a small photo trimmer works fine. If the simplicity of the Cannon software in printing your borderless pictures is worth more to you than the extra editing flexibilty of Elements, I'd go back.

. I am wondering if I should reinstall what I had before !!!

Reinstall the Canon EasyPhoto, Edit your pic using whatever software you want, save the new file as a jpeg, open it in easyPhoto and print away....KISS !!...Frank

Your Canon software was automatically cropping the photo for you, so you were still losing part of the photo. Elements lets you (or makes you, depending on your perspective) crop the photo yourself so that you get exactly what you want in the print.

To crop to size: Click the Crop tool and select the size print you're going to make:

Click and drag to select the area you want to print. You can adjust this size by dragging a corner, or move the crop holding down the button and dragging the crop box across the photo:

Voila! Your cropped photo!

To print, select File> Print Preview and be sure to check Scale to Fit Media:

Hello Tricia.

I didn't notice it was cutting part of my pics..... but the example you have showed me is great!!!

Thanks for your help!!!

Marc

Glad I could help. Actually, now that I think about it, whether it cut your photo depends on whether your camera takes photos in 3:2 ratio, in which case they wouldn't be cropped for 4x6, or 4:3 ratio, in which case you would lose about 1/2 inch total for 4x6, divided evenly between the top and bottom - not enough that you would notice on a lot of photos.

According to Phil's review, the maximum resolution is 2592 x 1944 - which is a 4:3 ratio. If you ever plan to print at 8x10, I'd suggest that you stay with this. However, the V1 also has one option for 2592 x 1728 (3:2); this would be okay if you ONLY plan to print at 4x6.

Play with some of your photos in Elements. Crop a full-sized one to 8x10 and see how little you lose off the edges. Now crop one to 4x6, then crop that crop to 8x10 - this is exactly what you'd be doing if you actually took the photo at the 3:2 ratio (2592x1728) and printed at 8x10.

Am I correct in saying that if he was to print an image on 6X8 paper(8/6=1.333, 4/3=1.333) that he wouldn't lose any image data to cropping?

The only printing program that I use for printing is Qimage. It works great. A full feature trial program can be downloaded from Qimage web site. If purchase, all of the upgrades for Qimage are free for its life time. It is a very nice printing program that works.

do all of your editing in Elements and then save the JPEG. Print the new JPEG using Easy-PhotoPrint.

Yes, it is very difficult to print with Adobe products, you have to specify down to the last detail. The Canon software takes some liberties and does many things automatically.
