12-24 samples with 1Ds

Not being able to resist the temptation, I ordered the 12-24 Sigma for my 1Ds, hoping for the best and prepared for the worst. It turned out better than I expected. I took only one picture inside my house yesterday and then some pictures at lunch break today, until the battery died. Nothing scientific...

The images have been converted rather quickly with C1 Pro 1.2 on the Mac, sRGB profile, medium quality, no noise reduction (except indoor pics) and standard sharpening. You can see the 100% image by clicking at the loupe above each individual image.

If you ask me, nothing to sneeze at, not worse than a 16-35 (which I sold a long time ago). The lens feels exceptionally well built, is big & heavy, but unfortunately the viewfinder is rather dim (I am spoiled with my 2.8 and faster lenses) and AF slow. Also, the zoom ring is backwards for us Canonians

Cheers,

  • Stan
