Sony RX100

is the Sony RX100 20.2 mp for $300 worth it??
It's worth whatever a particular buyer is willing to pay - but each buyer decides for himself. You might have to pay something like $300 (total with shipping and tax) for one in great condition, if that's what you mean.

Yes. It is worth it. You can not buy smartphone for $300 that will make better pics.

Some of my pictures captured with RX100 mk I. (edited in Capture One and OOC JPEGs)

I would prefer bit sharper OOC jpegs and sometimes landscape pics are overexposed but I really like neutral color output. (I hate oversaturated pics from smartphones)

I recommend the rx100m3 as the starter rx100 because

It starts wider at 24mm (ends shorter at 70mm, but you can easily crop to get same as 100mm end of m1 version).

It has darn good Image Stabilization, so when it defaults to 1/30th, the stills are not blurry. Note: handheld, many of us could not get blur free stills with the rx100 because it's IS was not good.

It has auto iso in M.

tilt lcd and pop-up evf are terrific

of all, if affordable, I recommend the rx100m6, it's apparently 'dark' lens is effectively brighter because it has even more effective image stabilization (I can shoot m6 handheld at 1/20th), and you can successfully use ISO up to 6400. It's in-camera Noise Reduction (JPEGS) is very effective.

Hi,

certainly several factors to consider. The version is one. Mk1 was released in 2012 so overall ageing, usage, storage, battery condition, electronics, the lens retraction mechanics and the protective blades.... the list is long of items that may define whether the aquisition is worth the money or if you're getting a pretty expensive paper weight (pretty soon). I owned the Mk1 from 2012 through 2022 when I sold it. I had a lot of fun with the cam and its very compact size was the reason to carry it on many occasions. Also IQ was great. Today though I'd go for one of the lastest models if I'd get again one. Especially the advances in AF and image stabilization count. The preffered zoom range is on you and your style.
