Looking at the photos here on DPR I wonder why it still has the small second rangefinder window AND the rangefinder focusing lever in the body behind the lens???

The rangefinder wheel lets the camera detect focus movement and (optionally) auto-magnify the EVF. The M10 and M11 series cameras can do this too. Don't yet know what the RF window is for. Update: Jono Slack says there's a red self-timer blinking light behind this window.

The window has been repurposed as the self timer indicator.

I saw the roller cam -- my assumption is to allow for auto magnification when focusing the lens?

I’d forgotten about the auto magnify. I don’t use it.

Makes sense. The old one is in the viewfinder window.

Auto mag + focus peaking gives the optimum accuracy for focus using the EVF

It’s also the focus assist light so I was told by a Leica guy today. I will get chance to read my manual later and check

On a manual focus camera? Doubtful. 😊
