Mirroring on a summer afternoon...

Hi Edmund, Thank You so much for the very kind comment! Sure I can send You the picture in any size You wanted. Give me the size and the address I could send it. Have a nice day. Kind regards: Laszlo

Thank You so much Erik! Have a nice day! Kind regards; Laszlo

Hi, Jim tried to explain to You how these reflexions could come up but it is obvious that He could not do it... At any case the file is not modified even if I never could explain it as Jim did... Have a nice day

Thank You so much for the kins support! Yes, the file is no modified and Jim gave the correct explanation what I never ever could do... Have a nice day!

I studied engineering and am an engineer.
I understand physics pretty well.
In this photo, all the rules of physics are broken.
Jim knows this now, too, and is therefore very quiet.
I'm open to any in-depth discussion.
What Jim says isn't necessarily always the ultimate truth.
The reason I am quiet has nothing to do with physics, but has to do with my estimation of the likelihood of further explanation on my part convincing you.

I find it had to believe that someone posts a photo which they say is as taken and then a whole load of people call him a liar.

Correction: one person called him a liar, a whole load of people said it's a nice picture.
Kumsal has made it a pattern of accusing photographers on this and other forums and other photography sites of faking photographs, using AI, manipulating, and otherwise being "dishonest" with their work.

In fact, his posts are almost exclusively of such attack nature.

To call his posts offensive is putting it mildly.

It certainly has something to do with a camera setting.
Hasselblad can also make people disappear when taking multiple shots, depending on the settings.
I have a lot of questions about this photo, which is hard to explain physically.
Anyway, I didn't mean to assume you had bad intentions.
I'll stick to this: beautiful photo with a questionable appearance.

My suggestion would be to move the whole thread to fight club or somewhere where people can work out their agression. No disrespect intended to anyone, I'm just a techie who likes reading about cameras and seeing images.

And to the OP: I like your picture.

Edmund

I wouldn't have expected that.
With respect and thanks in advance.
Sometimes I think life's too short to argue with someone who you aren't going to convince no matter what.

Here is a rendering showing the effect :

You can see that in the direct light path from the window to the camera we can see that the sun is reflected in the upper row. In the reflection of the water however the sun appears in the lower row as now the rays of light follow an additional angle.

Even better, take a look at this animation:
Grazing angle animation

As the grazing angle becomes smaller and smaller- simulated by raising up the reflective plane the ray paths become more similar and the reflection will match the direct view. That's the reason why people go way down low with their cameras or smartphones over puddles to take pics. It's to have the shallowest possible grazing angle to get a closer match between reflection and direct view.

In the real example at the start of the thread you have a group of houses all at different angles and the reflected sky is not perfectly homogeneous in appearance. That adds to the difference in the reflection as well.

.......

I have 2 questions about this would this work with any Hasselblad or only specific models?

How many shots until it makes people disappear?

you know, my mother -in-law is coming soon and I could offer to shot a portrait.

It may be worth the investment. :-D

At first glance, a beautiful photo.
Upon closer inspection, the lower windows of the buildings should not reflect off the water at all.
The sunlight in the windows doesn't match in the top and bottom halves of the photo.
The point of view of a reflection is different from the point of view of the inlet pupil of the camera lens.

Best regards

Erik

Print and hang.

Love the warm peaceful feeling this image emanates. Beautiful neighborhood.

What kind of toxic summary is that?
No one called him a liar!
Sorry, I was going to stay quiet, but felt the need to call this out. You might not have directly called the Op a liar, but you did say that the Ops Photo “…brakes all the laws of physics….” If that were true then the Op would be lying. Perhaps you did not realize what you were saying, but that is the same as calling someone a liar in my book.
