The theme of this Mini Challenge is Architecture Juxtaposition Old and New. Use your imagination. Try something a bit different. Unfortunately I don’t have any examples available right now as I am away, without access to my photos.

This mini challenge starts now and will end at August 23 2025 at Midnight ACST.

Maximum of three entries and/or 10 exhibits per member. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Winners will be selected only from Entries. Honorable Mentions will be selected only from both Entries and Exhibits. As usual, coveted Dishonorable Mentions will be issued as necessary to keep your judge amused.

The photo must be taken by you and only you (you pressed the shutter button, self timer or remote shutter release).

DPREVIEW rules regarding propriety apply. Any equipment and any post-processing may be used. I'll allow the use of AI as part of processing the final image, but if you used AI, that must be disclosed and it must not substantially alter the image content and message.

Please submit your pictures as a REPLY to this post.

Please indicate clearly whether your image is an Entry or an Exhibit. An undesignated post will be considered an Exhibit.

Comments on others' photos are also strongly encouraged!! These mini-challenges are some of the ways we on the forum can get to know and learn from one another.

Before posting your Entry or Exhibit, please take the time and comment on someone else's image. By doing so, you may encourage more forum participation.

PLEASE consider making some of your posts Entries. New and different hosts would help keep these Challenges fun with new and different ideas, and you can make as much or as little work of the hosting as you like. Thanks!

The 1st place winner will host the next Challenge, selecting the theme. If the winner does not respond within 3 days or declines to host, the 2nd place winner becomes the host. If the second-place winner declines, the 3rd place winner becomes the host.

The low rise building in the front was built in the late 1950's. The Metro Harbour Plaza in the back was built in the 1990. The Lok Kwan Street Park on the left was once a pier.

Founded as a hotel, it initially housed travelling immigrants. Later, it was used as a detention center and also housed artists' studios. It is an official national monument of the Netherlands. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Hotel

The city of Burgos used to be surrounded by a 12th-century wall, but today only some parts of the medieval barrier remain intact, including the triumphal Arco de Santa María, the most impressive of the dozen arched entries to the walled city.

A couple entries to get started.

This is the Catholic Church of San Juan La Laguna in Guatemala. The original structure was destroyed in a 1902 earthquake and portions rebuilt afterwards. Most of the structure was replaced in 2007 - an older section of the front wall was retained.

The Louvre in Paris features buildings dating back centuries. The Pyramid was designed by I. M. Pei and was built in the 1980s and serves and the main entrance into the museum. It's an accepted part of the complex now, but I wonder how it was received when plans were first displayed to the public.

Will try to find a few more in a few days - running around getting ready to take our oldest to college.
