Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Andrew

I have a strange feeling that I have posted a few of these before! In any case, some were processed last night and others before, all relatively recent.

You appear to have inexhaustible supply of shots of flowers from RBG. They are undoubtedly one of the best examples of their species since they are being cultivated by experts to achieve such a splendor. Great effort in capturing their beauty..

This one has a random rider...

Those are really nice with juicy colours!

How did you manage to reply to me in the old thread? It was full when I tried to reply to WN earlier.

I don't want the Panasonic. But I can buy one for you if you want it. I don't think they have a campaign here. it costs much more than what you said at real camera shops (according to a price comparison site), but Swedish Amazon has it for SEK 11,694.92 . That's about €1045 or 1 653 Canadian.

https://www.amazon.se/dp/B0DJH3PN84

But I would hesitate to buy something that expensive from Amazon. And shipping from here to you would add a bit. And you would probably lose the guarantee. And there may be TARIFFS! 😲

P.S.
But I have not problem buying from anywhere within EU if you are really interested. Could get messy though, if there's something wrong with it.

These are all some Dee Luxe photography, Andrew. It's some of your best flower photography I've seen. I wonder how many lenses you take with you on such a trip and wonder why you used the 100-400 1 for these, not that it didn't do a good job.

I am also in a stage where I wonder if I have already posted some pictures.

I just received a follow up call from the doctor's office about the results of my abdominal aorta aneurysm scan a few weeks ago. All previous times they've called to say it is OK. This time they want me to see a specialist in vascular surgery. Earliest appointment was August 18. I have until then to sweat about it. Actually, I don't sweat. Instead my abbreviated colon gets spastic due to stress. Gettin old ain't fer sissies. Rich

The Best Camera is the one that you have on your hands.

Thanks Charlotte. I am with you in not buying anything expensive from Amazon. I have been burned before and not a route I care to go down again.

No idea about the reply. Sometimes I can hit the 150 mark, at other times I get the same message you got. Same seems to apply to editing posts I have made. Sometimes I can edit them after a reply has been made and at other times not. Strange!

Andrew

The second one is great…….love the composition

Where I live was once a center for textile milling and today there are still two mills standing but, of course, used in a different capacity .. Lowes Mill where I often visit has has been used as studios and offices for artists and small businesses and startups that don't require much space ...and one floor was an open market for such goods ... The pictures I took this day and processed are a very limited view of what I saw and found interesting .. Only a couple from outside ..

Certainly not representative except to show that it was made of bricks ... From the inside we will get a better look at the building

The building had old elevators .... which I understand has been modernized by a recent renovation ...

and a couple galleries where the art can be displayed

This is what I took that day. ....... I have shown these (well maybe not this processed set) and other more inclusive pictures over the years here ... Maybe you remember some better views ...or maybe we'll get to them in some other month ..... Or maybe I'll get back to see what has changed in these last years ...

Well my choice of words in the title was not specific Rich. These were actually taken in our gardens, not the RBG! When I go to the RBG I used to carry my bag with the body, the 12- 40 and the 40 - 150 f/2.8. It also has the Laowa 7.5 mm f/2 and the Panasonic 20 mm f/1.7 since they are always in the bag along with the tiny flash and some other stuff. After I got the 12 - 100 then I just started carrying the camera and that lens and left the bag either in the car or more usually, at home.

I may have taken the 100 - 400 to the RBG at some point in time to shoot water lilies that I can not get close to. I took it out at home in the hopes of catching some butterflies, but only one small one cooperated from those posted! Many of the butterflies are not cooperative and will not stay still long enough and any motion on my part sets them off on a journey.

I am sorry to learn of your result Rich. Hopefully it is less concerning than you are imagining! From my experience here in the past five years, you are getting fast tracked. I would likely have to wait months to see a specialist here today. When you double the population by bringing in tons of immigrants, but do not double the necessary infrastructure and services available, then things start to fall apart! I am not sure why it has taken so long for people to figure that out.

I will hope for the best news you can get Rich. In the mean time, I guess you need to relax and not get worked up about it. Yeah, right. Not sure how anyone can do that! My wife sweats bullets every time things seem not normal and gets a referral to another doctor! I am older and closer to lights out likely than she is but poor medical history for her makes everything concerning.

Made a Negroni tonight, first time ever. Likely to be the last too unless my wife wants one. I think I need a new bottle of sweet vermouth though as that one has been around for decades. Seems like a waste of perfectly good gin to me!

Andrew

Your pets turned out really well Roy. Bees with a flash ... no worries about getting them angry and getting stung?

I take it you are having a bit of a break now at home to recover from being overly busy!

Andrew

We have a lot of old textile and garment buildings around within a couple of hours of where we live WN. All abandoned from their original purposes. Buildings for making textiles, finished garments including high end suits, etc. Most likely about the same age as the building you show. I have no idea what if anything is inside those buildings now. I worked a couple of summers in Otis Elevator in Hamilton, Ontario. That building looked a quite similar to the one you show. It closed down not long after I worked there and production was moved to New York state, if I recall correctly.

Some very nice images in that set. I particularly like the second last.

Andrew

Very nice results Andrew, may favourites are the Day Lilies.

Dicky.

Excellent results - well done.

Dicky.

Thanks Dicky.

I like most flowers. Orchids are an exception to that for me. I even like 'weeds' so I guess I am different in that regard because orchids have a lot of admirers!

Andrew

Interesting series WN, at least it doesn't look like the dark satanic mills of Dave;s homeland :-D
