Hi All. Earlier this year I've bought the Nikon Z8 and 70-200 Z lens. The lens now has focusing issues. Weird as it was never dropped or handled roughly. I bought both from Amazon.com, USA model, new. If I send the lens in, will they reject it as the SN isn't on the Amazon invoice? (Also same question if my Z8 ever had to be sent in under warranty.)

Thanks!

Was it shipped or sold by Amazon or was it some other seller? Nikon has some rules about buying on Amazon (Amazon itself is a reseller, but you have to pay attention to who is actually selling the item). So you do have to be careful when buying on Amazon (Basically you should look for verbage like "Sold by Amazon" or "Sold and Shipped by Amazon" -- those are fine).

Since I haven't dealt with this particular situation (all of my receipts have a serial number on them and I bought them from registered resellers with Nikon, such as BestBuy and my local camera store and they always put the SN on the receipt) so I'd say you can make a claim. The worst case is they don't honor it because there is no serial number on the receipt and I'd be on the fence as to whether they'd honor it or not.

Nikon will probably check the serial number against their database to ensure it's not a grey market lens, one that was imported by an unauthorized Nikon dealer.

Some photo equipment companies in the US sell both grey market and "official" gear that was imported by the authorized channel, some will then provide warranty for the grey market product through their own service channel.

They may, or may not, ask for a copy of the receipt/Amazon invoice to verify the purchase date.

Cheers,
Doug

I think all you can do is try Nikon. You might try a phone call or chat before you ship the lens. In the past they had a reputation for being pretty picky about warranty, so don't get your hopes up.

Was Amazon the actual seller or did you buy through a merchant account? The dealer might, or might not, help you if you run into problems with Nikon.

Good luck

It was sold and shipped by Amazon and listed as USA new. The lens box had the Nikon USA warrant card.

Shouldn't be a problem then. I would think as long as you have the receipt showing you paid for it, you're the original owner (make sure to register it on NIkon's site if you haven't already) and you mail in a copy of the warranty card that came with the lens, then i would think they should honor it. having the SN on the receipt I don't think is explicitly a requirement from what I remember, just proof of purchase. They will probably verify with the seller who the lens was sold to as I think they do have to keep records as to what SN is sold to whom.
