Check out some of the comments:
switched from Canon DSLR 60D to Fujifilm X-T1 & X-T3 at the time but very dissapointed experiences on autofocus! I sshot my friends while motobike trips (touring)… the focus almost 90% failed… I have already heavily invest on prime fujifilm native lens… finally in this year 2024 I switch to Sony APSC camera A6600

Sony A6700 - here i come.

Do threads like this just need locking at this point?

Almost 90% fail? I would have scrutinized my own understanding of the camera, whatever the model, before jumping to conclusions. As Ice Cube put it in 1993: 'Check yo self, before you wreck yo self.' :D

Why are you talking about ancient X-T1 and X-T3 cameras? Even so, you you missed 90% of the photos you were taking, the problem was not the camera. These are with the X-T3, a very capable camera.

I have no idea Stu as I've blocked his channel.

He (edvard ) is just a scaremongerer trying to make a name for himself. Let's face it, if he's only getting 10% focussed images he's a lousy photographer. I don't care what the camera is. I was doing MUCH better than that in 2003 with a Fuji 6900.

I have used fujifilm for sports for years.

I switched to Nikon mostly for the lenses, but the AF was never an issue as far as I was concerned.

If 90% of your shots are mis focused, I think the biggest problem is with what's holding the camera, not the camera itself.

I did not watch the video because I find the statements that the OP described just wrong.

I have been a Fujifilm user since 2018. I have an X-T20 and an X-T4. Sony probably has the better AF. But number one, the Fujifilm AF statement is just wrong already for the older Fujifilm bodies, I can confirm that with tens of thousands of images that are tack sharp, of course I have misses but a small fraction only, and number two, Fujifilm seem to really have made a big step with the latest bodies which that video author does not seem to address. The video obviously does not cover the newer bodies.

My opinion: It is crap. Or trolling.

Martin

AutoFocus is one of those things, that if you do not have it setup properly, will only result in grief.

If you are not getting the AF results you think you should be getting, I would suggest listing your camera setting here and allowing readers to suggest changes. Don't forget to say what it is you are shooting that is not giving the results you want and post a few sample shots with full EXIF.

I know. Been there, done that.

TBF, that is an old video.

The issues Edvard brought to attention were real. However, it has been mostly addressed or at least reverted back to before things went haywire. Fuji really fumbled it hard. A whole year of incremental updates with progressively worse AF. Took a while but they've gotten it straightened up.

Fans were initially in denial of the AF issues and quick to dismiss. You've prob witness the same responses here in this thread already. It is a sensitive subject as Fuji has been a punching bag for most of the past decade around AF. Edvard made those videos for a reason. As a user himself he was frustrated by Fuji and also the community's response.

Even at the worst point of Fuji firmware updates AF hit rates wasn't so bad that it was 90% failure. You might be exaggerating/overstating, have faulty hardware, misconfigured settings, handling issue or trying to shoot some highly challenging subjects.

Again TBF, you might be telling the truth. My mom was never able to shoot her grandkids with a X-T1 using a 56 F1.2 wide open lens. She wasn't a technical person nor knew much about photography. Just pushing a button is the extent of her desire to learn. When she tired a Sony everything worked out. It was simple and works. To her the Fuji was "90%" failure, but IMO it was more like 50/50.

Going from X-T1 to A6700 is a massive 5-6 generation leap forward in AF capabilities. But, Whatever makes you happy and gets the job done.
