Fujifilm rumored to release an XF 23mm pancake lens in 2025

I don't really get it myself, and i find it even more baffling when people describe the existing XF23mm f2 as 'too big and heavy'..... You have to wonder if some of these people have ever done a days manual work when they make ridiculous statements like this.
Agree
Much like this fixed lens GFX, i feel Fuji could be pooling their resource into much more needed items in the lineup.
Disagree. The GFX100RF is so Fuji. Sadly I don’t have a spare £4.7k 😢

Hahaha yeah ill give you that one, it definitely does fit with the style.

I like the idea of a 23mm pancake (i like the 27mm also), just find it a bit too similar to both the existing 23 and the 27, perhaps if they'd created it in he first place it would be more relevant.

It is close. And sort of unnecessary. It’s not for me. But there are folk who dislike 27mm and this is an extension of available choices.

Yeah, on reflection choice is never a bad thing i suppose.

I wonder how many people shouting for this lens, also want updates to the 50-140, 10-24 etc. I know where id prefer the expertise to be focused, but in terms of sales, this pancake will kill it.

Well, there’s no denying it’s a lot longer than the 27 and if you use a small camera the difference in the balance of the body can be noticeable. Stick those two lenses on an X-E4 and it’s very noticeable.

Everything’s relative. It’s no Viltrox 27/1.2, but if people find it too big and heavy for their preferences then that’s a valid subjective opinion.

What you mean is you want something they’re not making 🙂

Meanwhile I’m contemplating replacing the entirety of my X System kit with the new GFX.

Well, from a personal POV, im not really chasing anything, just going by what others are asking for.

Im not sure, its 'a lot bigger', ive got both and the difference is about a cm just on sight. I don't own an X-E4 but do have the X-E2s and to me both still feel like a really compact camera setup.

Anyway as i said above, im sure the sales will be massive so they are playing to the market.

Is there a particular new or MkII version of a lens which you personally want, need or see a strong case for?

If this lens is f2, I might replace both my 27mm f2.8 and X100F with this lens. I like the form factor of the 27 but have found the aperture too limiting for my usage. I often want a pancake lens like this when I'm in a restaurant or bar with friends, so I need to shoot wide open. I do like the X100F but it feels like a lot of money for what I use it for.

All that said, I'd like an 18mm f2 WR as it complements my preferred 50mm equivalent length better. In practice I don't find the size difference between a pancake lens and Fujicron meaningful, as either setup fits comfortable in the sling I use. I use an X-T body though, so it might be different for smaller camera users.

Id say the 50-140 is the most obvious candidate, but i dont own one so not going to impact my personal situation, i just think with the new 16-55 its perhaps time to upgrade it.

I dont mind the output from my 10-24 but then im not really peeping too much so maybe not the best person to comment, nor do i use the 40mp sensor with it. Going by other opinions alone it also probably needs a proper refresh.

Is there a case for a WR 55-200? or would the 70-300 cover that base? i do miss mine sometimes as it seemed to just tie in with the 18-55 and 16-55 better as a kit.

I can’t wait for it to be released! I suspect it will look like the current 27mm 2.8 WR and also be a 2.8. I have that lens but am not a fan of the focal length/ angle of view.

23mm is my favorite FL / AofV and I have the 23mm f1.4 WR and the 23 f2 WR. The 1.4 is excellent but too big to fit in my smallest bags or a coat pocket. The 23mm f2 is great between f4 and f8 but every copy I have tried is pretty weak at f2 and even a little weak at f2.8 especially up close.

I would be thrilled to replace my 27mm 2.8 and 23mm f2 with this new pancake.

I can see replacing my current Fuji 23mm lens with this new pancake...

I could maybe see myself letting my Fuji 27mm pancake go, but that might be a stretch...

I could never see myself ditching all my Fuji X gear for that GFX fixed lens thing...

It's a beautiful lens if you're ok with MF. I love it.

Nice to see there’s still people who comment on Fujirumors who don’t understand why the current 23mm f2 is ‘bigger’ than the lens on the X100 🙄… I’m guessing no matter how many times it’s explained to them, they will never accept it.
