Looks like they may have found a way around AdBlocker:

...some of the foregoing. - Like, you don't need Vivaldi browser to stop your problem (good browser though it is). See pic below.

All you need is simple and decent ad blockers. Here's my page using Firefox with both the free add-ons active:

Adblock Plus and Adblocker Ultimate.

It has ever been thus. (Win 10, btw.)

Yes, I've had AdBlocker Plus for years and bought Ultimate yesterday which did the trick as shown above.

I think that's just click-bait Ted. It probably will take you to TeMu.com or something.

Oh dear, indeed. Not too far away from them forcing a subscription upon us to continue using DPReview.

Now it has popped up during a session, even after clicking 'Continue without supporting'

Thin end of the wedge?

Every time I click there, will a counter be incremented, like in a cookie? and then someday ... ding!! ... ya gotta subscribe!

They will end up losing their ad revenue by scaring away their users if they do that. I can't understand why they wouldn't just start an on-line camera store, using this site as its primary source of promotion. People do still buy cameras, lenses, tripods, camera bags and backpacks, etc.

They could make a lot of money by selling camera gear to users here, and if they still want to start a $3 per month subscription service (which they could raise to $3.50 per month, and then $4, and eventually $5) they could include a 10% discount in the "DPstore" for all subscribers. This store would obviously have to compete with Amazon prices, but considering how much Amazon charges their retailers, that should be pretty easy to do.

BTW, 10% off a $600 camera lens would be enough to pay for the $5 membership subscription for a year. It would be worth it. I think most DPreview users probably buy one or two expensive pieces of gear per year. In the past five years I've bought three cameras, six Art lenses, two Fuji lenses, and several other lenses. I don't think any of it was new, but lots of people do still buy new stuff. It might work well for them. Of course, I guess it might not though.

Thin edge of the wedge, indeed.

The world can thank Adobe for the subscription model. I made all my systems Adobe free some time ago and recently got rid of Arlo security cameras due to their literally turning off the data stream until I subscribed. I am investigating what client server software is available and will move on from there.

I also choose to not subscribe to any "cloud" services. Those services are simply not secure. I keep all my data on spinning hard disk drives with 3 levels of redundancy. Spinning disks are a lot more reliable for archive storage than SSDs.

Yeah, I can't understand people who store their photos in "the cloud" . . . as if that's the way to be safe. They pay and pay and pay (for maybe one or two terabytes). In the end they'd end up paying so much they could have bought multiple 5 TB hard drives, on which they could have stored a lot more data, with redundancy. I guess they figure they could just use any computer on Earth to access their data, but what happens when the company goes broke, or just decides to shut down their cloud storage business, because they've expanded into something more lucrative, and see the cloud storage business as just a hassle too keep running? I believe this sort of thing has happened many times in the past, so there's no reason for me to believe it's not going to happen again in the future. Some people pay like $15 per month for cloud storage! Insane, if you ask me, when you can buy a 5 TB hard drive every year for around $100 (a lot less than the cost of that subscription).

After a few years you'd have three or four of those 5 TB hard drives, but so be it. If you have free space on some of them, you could copy an archive of the best shots from your computer to one or two of those external hard drives, so you'd have extra redundancy. If you want a safety hard drive, I guess you could just put one at a friend's house, if you think your house might burn down. Better yet, put them in Zip-Lock freezer bag in a hole under your house in a sealed steel container, like one of those 50 cal. ammo cans, and put a concrete cover over it, like one of those 2" thick stepping stones you can get at the garden center at Wal-Mart or Home Depot.
