The Panasonic Lumix S5II launched the second generation of Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless camera system and was the first Panasonic to feature phase detect autofocus. As our review reveals, it’s a heck of an all-around camera for both still and video shooters.
I Need Your Help! Sony PlayMemories Camera Apps Archive Project
(Forgive any formatting bugs, I'm posting this in multiple forums to cast a wide net)
Hey!
For the past few months I’ve been working on building an archive of the Sony PlayMemories Camera Apps due to Sony beginning the sunset of their app store. As of October last year new purchases are disabled, leaving only the free apps and previously purchased apps to be downloaded. That will end next year at the end of August.
I have collected a decent number of the apps, but I need your help!
I was able to purchase a few that interested me before the end of sales date, and I’ve archived everything I had, but the issue comes from some cameras needing version specific apps.
I was only able to archive versions from my NEX-5T and A6000, and these seem to work on most A6x00 cameras that support the apps, and others have contributed some limited apps for other cameras, but not all. There’s a lot of interest/request for apps compatible with the A7x series, and the RX100x series as well. The A6x00/NEX apps can sometimes install but don’t function properly due to the different aspect ratios.
If anyone owns an A7x or RX100x camera and owns any apps, it would be appreciated by the community if you’d be willing to share them for the archive to keep the functionality alive for future use and longevity of the cameras!
Obviously not all the apps are useful and some are just basic consumer nonsense, but the ones that add useful/helpful features deserve to be preserved.
Anyone willing to share can do so privately by uploading them to a file sharing service and sending me a dm, or commenting here if they want to share publicly. No personal information or account info is associated with the shared apps, they are just standard android app packages (APK files), in case anyone worries about that.
Instructions and information on extracting the apps from your camera, as well as links to the archive can be found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyAlpha/comments/16pkdvu/how_to_archive_sony_playmemories_camera_apps
Below is a list of what cameras are supported, and what is archived so far, if you have anything that’s not here, please share if you can!
If there are any questions or anyone needs assistance extracting/sharing apps I'm happy to help!
Thanks, and happy shooting
